Carlos José Ardila-Barrera It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of the beautiful body of our son Carlos José Ardila-Barrera at the age of 20. Deeply loved and cherished by his parents Carlos Ardila and Martha Ivonne Barrera. Sadly, missed by his siblings Andrea, Jorge and Teresa. Treasured grandson of Carmen Amparo and late Jorge Ardila, Gilma Zuluaga, and Enrique Alfonso. Proud uncle of Emma Ivonne. Loved nephew of Jorge (Niki), Luis Evaristo (Janeth), Amparo, Cecilia, Alvaro (Martha), and Blanca. Carlitos José (CJ) will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by his cousins and friends. CJ is a wonderful soul, that will always live within us. While his physical body may not be here with us, his true self will forever surround our everyday lives. The illness that defeated his body did not define who he was; we know he was so much more than what he had shown us thus far, and had many goals and aspirations to live out through us. CJ is the kind of soul that finds beauty in everyday life; his contagious laugh and quirky smile conveyed his happiness, with no need for words, despite his daily struggle to style his beautiful curly locks of hair. He managed to show us the true meaning of “leading by example” and was a determined individual that succeeded in every goal he set his mind to. His rightfulness to not stray from the correct path was evident by how he carried his personal convictions. CJ showed his artistic passions such as his love for music, his keen vision for drawing, and his dexterity for sculptures, not only through his works of art, but also through his warm smile. Alongside his wonderful artistic traits, CJ had also found a way to impress us with his ability to blast his music to deafening tones in the shower while you were trying to watch a decent show on TV. Emma and CJ found a never-ending bond that was similar to a brother-sister one! She knew he was uncle CJ but for a while she said he was her brother. Bringing joy and laughter as well as pranking each other. The house cats (Tex and Moo) were his ultimate toy, pride, and joy, that did not mind sharing a small space of living room floor with him. CJ’s life will remain full of many wonderful souls including his many colleagues, peers, gaming friends, and newly-kindled friendships that gravitate to his inviting energy. Carlitos’ body is one of the many examples of what an illness can do to someone, yet not show very many symptoms. We, as a world community, have a moral responsibility to dispel stigmas, and promote awareness of these illnesses. We must remain strong for our fellow brothers and sisters, and open up our hearts to each other; even if we are total strangers, we are all human beings. We know the passing of his body has not gone in vain, and has served as a second chance at life. His body has given us a totally new outlook on how we lead our current lives, and has started many reflections within our family, and how to better show compassion towards the misunderstood individuals within our community. Carlitos José, you are an amazing human being, full of many wonders and thoughts. We will never forget you; we will never stop holding your hand, and we will always love you. We know Carlitos is in God’s kingdom and glory and is accompanied by all of His angels; he will care and watch over us from the skies above. Amado nieto de Carmen Amparo y fallecido Jorge Ardila, Gilma Zuluaga y Enrique Alfonso. Orgulloso tío de Emma Ivonne. Amado sobrino de Jorge (Niki), Luis Evaristo (Janeth), Amparo, Cecilia, Alvaro (Martha) y Blanca. Carlitos José (CJ) será siempre recordado con cariño y extrañado por sus primos y amigos. CJ es un alma maravillosa, viviendo dentro de nosotros. Si bien su cuerpo físico puede no estar aquí, su verdadero yo rodeará para siempre nuestra vida cotidiana. La enfermedad que derrotó a su cuerpo no define quién es él; sabemos que es mucho más de lo que nos mostró hasta ahora y sus metas y aspiraciones siempre viviran a través de nosotros. CJ encontraba belleza en la cotidianidad; su peculiar sonrisa y contagiosa risa reflejaban felicidad sin necesidad de palabras, a pesar de su lucha diaria por peinar sus hermosos mechones rizados. Logró mostrarnos el verdadero significado de "liderar con ejemplo" y fue un ser determinado al éxito en cada meta que puso en su mente. Su rectitud por el camino correcto fue evidente por la forma en que llevo sus convicciones personales. CJ mostro sus pasiones artísticas como su amor por la música, su aguda visión del dibujo y su destreza por las esculturas, no sólo a través de sus obras de arte, sino también a través de su cálida sonrisa. Junto con sus maravillosos rasgos artísticos, CJ también habia encontrado una manera de impresionarnos con su capacidad de hacer estallar su música para ensordecernos con sus estridentes tonos en la ducha mientras uno intentaba ver un programa decente en la televisión. Emma y CJ encontraron una conexion como de hermanos. Ella sabia que el era el tio CJ pero por un tiempo decia que era su hermano, trayéndole felicidad y sonrisas con sus pilatunas. Los gatos de la casa (Tex y Moo) fueron su juguete, orgullo y alegría, que no les importaba compartir un pequeño espacio del piso de la sala para estar con él. Su existencia siempre estará llena de seres maravillosos, incluyendo sus colegas, compañeros, amigos de juegos y amistades recién encendidas que fueron atraidas con su maravillosa energía. El cuerpo de Carlitos es uno de los muchos ejemplos de lo que una enfermedad puede hacerle a alguien, pero no muestra muchos síntomas. Nosotros, como comunidad mundial, tenemos la responsabilidad moral de dispersar los estigmas y promover la conciencia de estas enfermedades. Debemos permanecer fuertes para nuestros hermanos y hermanas, y abrir nuestros corazones el uno al otro; incluso si somos totales extraños, todos somos seres humanos. Sabemos que el paso de su cuerpo no ha ido en vano, y ha servido como una segunda oportunidad en la vida.
