While working at DBIS, I had the privilege of working alongside with John. It didn’t feel like work when he was on the shift. Outings with the clients were fun when he was there. These words depict John to a T; generous, caring, compassionate, gregarious, dependable, funny, kindhearted, advocate, brother, son, nephew, grandson and I’m sure we all could add so much more! Since reading about his untimely passing before Christmas, I have thought of him every single day since! I have prayed for his family and all of his loved ones on Christmas Day, for peace, comfort and to feel God’s loving arms around you all. He truly left his mark in those that worked with him, his friends and the clients that he worked with. My condolences to all of his family, friends and to those that held a special place in his heart. The loss is great. May you take comfort in knowing that he truly made an impact in his life!

My heart and thoughts go out to John's family and loved ones at this sad time. I only knew him briefly. But I had the pleasure of spending some fun times with John and Lisa recently. There was an immediate connection with John. I was certain there would have been many more good times with them. I wish I knew the right words to say, I'm here for you Lisa.

It is such a sad thing to think we will not have John's unique gifts of good humour and kindness to enjoy and brighten our world. From the first time I observed his interactions with the clients at DBIS I was impressed by his humanity. He was respectful, kind, helpful, fun and funny. He made the lives of the people he interacted with better just by being himself. I thought he would be almost perfect to work with us. It wasn't till later I learned he had a much lower opinion of himself. He did not value enough the qualities I saw in him and he was apparently as harsh with himself as he was kind to others.
I miss John and will not forget him. I wish you,the family, the comfort of knowing that others saw the best in him and loved him too.

I first meet John five years ago when we worked together at Dale in one of their homes for clients. Over these five years I have been blessed to know him as a worker, a friend and as my missing piece of my heart. John was caring in all that he did for people. He loved the clients and had a passion for helping people. He had a true calling to help the elderly. John would light up a room when he walked in with his grace , his smile and his laughter. To know John is to only love him. As he had struggled in life with mental health and trying to find the fix for his brain. I have had many chats with him this past month on how he felt his brain was different. I said your right John it is. It is a special brain. Your kind , your thoughful , caring and most of all your a true all around great man. John has been a friend to my children and had been a light in my Grandaughter Estelle’s life. John loved her smiling face. He had a knack with kids, As he watched my son grow to be a strong spirit Teen . Before he left this world he told my son I’m proud of you buddy. Be all that you can be. My loss of this great man in my life has had a huge impact on my Soul. John was fighting this battle to the best of his ability . Please take your memories and cherish them. John would not want us to be sad but to live life. Smile and do the best we can. Helping others is what he enjoyed doing. He loved being there for our clients and had a special place in their hearts. I know he is at peace and I will remember all the fun times we had. The concerts , the walks with the dogs and all The food we loved to eat. But most of all I will remember his kind , giving , nature and this precious man who I love deeply . Rest In Peace John. My friend.

There are no words to express my sympathies for those closest to John.
Sadly I haven't kept in touch with John since high school, but he left such an incredible and warm impression on me that I literally feel like it was just the other day that I heard his booming laugh reacting to someone's joke in the hallways or cafeteria.
That was what was so lovable about John, he was so kind, and so positive, so quick to laugh at your jokes (even if they weren't that funny), and he always greeted you with such warmth and kindness. It was hard not to gravitate to his big warm presence that filled any room he was in.
There are few people in my life that I can truly say have left such a warm place in my heart as John has, and I will never forget his kindness.
To those closest to him, his family and close friends, I am so very sorry for your pain, but I hope that you take some comfort in knowing that John was so beloved by so many, and brought so much light into the hearts and minds of those who knew him.
My warmest sympathies to everyone feeling this loss. He will certainly be missed.
Sincerely,
Bryan H

John was an amazing leader of our program Camp Dawn. He changed the lives of our campers by his sincere caring. He took the time to really listen to them and treated them with the utmost respect. This year we needed a rescuer - a male leader who could come up last minute. In true John style he said “you know I will Julie. I love camp dawn”. We will honour you this camp 2019 John. You are always in our camp dawn family forever love.
