Fr. Robert O'Brien posted a condolence

My prayers and sympathies to all of you who are Fr. Joe's family, friends and diocesan family. I had the pleasure of being taught by Fr. Joe in my last year in seminary at St. Peter's in the 1988-89 academic year. Fr. Joe was a breath of fresh air with his practical zingers his colourful socks and effusive personality. I've been in priestly ministry now for 35 years and appreciate even more his attention to the pastoral work at hand. His love of people and his hope for them was shot through his whole person. I am sure many of you contributed to all of that and much more good that I did not witness. May he be welcomed now to that fullness of life he trusted in and so happily shared with us.

To Father Hardy’s family & friends. We were parishioners at St. Columban parish until it closed in 2003. Father sure kept things interesting & fun. He would often start his homilies with a good Irish joke disguised as a story that related to the homily with Mrs. McGillicuddy as the central character. The parties he organized were called “fun raisers” and any funds raised was just a bonus. May he rest in peace. Gerry & Nancy O’Reilly

I had the pleasure of caring for Father Joe as he called himself at Mount Hope Center for Long Term Care as a PSW. He was always a kind man, very funny and loving to all. He would often stop in the morning where we keep our artificial flowers and hand them out to some of the ladies in the home. He had many friends and everyone cared about him. He is missed everyday. He was truly a blessing to know.
My condolences to his family and friends.

Sincere sympathy to FatherJoe’s family. I had the pleasure of working with him when I taught grades three and four at Joseph School in Clinton. The children loved when he would visit the class. He always had a good time with them and would get them excited. We would be involved at Sunday Mass at times. One I remember in particular was a presentation by the children on the Jesse Tree. He leaves behind many great memories and personal celebrations. He was great to arrange things for the altar boys. Our son went to play soccer at a youth detention centre. He shared why some were spending time there. It scared the boys but helped them realize, that in spite of the crimes committed , they were still just boys and enjoyed the sport. Last I spoke with him he wanted to go for a drive and it was about 8 at night.. I apologized that it was too late as I had a hour to drive. Sincere sympathy to all his family and may the happy memories continue to make you smile. RIP Father Hardy.

My condolences on the passing of Fr Hardy. He was our priest at st Joseph’s church in Clinton. He gave me my first communion and was there until my confirmation. He became a very good friend to our family and we all have very good memories of him. He was the priest for my sisters marriage and was there for my brothers and parents funerals. Through all the years I managed to keep in touch with him. The last time I called him I asked him how old he was, his reply was 87 not yet in heaven. Well you are now. Thank you Fr Hardy for always being there and all the people you helped in your life. Now in closing I,d like to quote fr hardy what he would say at the end of his sermon “ AND NOW EVERYONE IN A BIG LOUD VOICE”. AMEN

Jim , Marj and Family,
Our condolences for your loss. Our kids upon hearing of Joe's passing texted us of so many happy encounters with Joe. Uppermost was a trip where he took them to Bigeman Park to the waterslide and after for pizza. They even sent us a picture of serving for him at the altar just like their father had before them. We will certainly miss Joe.
