Suzanne LaRouche (nee Hillaireau)
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Suzanne LaRouche, ( nee Hillaireau), at Christie Gardens Retirement Home in Toronto on Friday, January 27, 2012 in her 92nd year after a long and courageous journey, suffering from Dystonia. Loving wife to Roger who predeceased her in 2006. She will be missed by her children, Pascal LaRouche and Shirley (Lee) of Toronto, Jackie LaRouche-Merifield and Bob of Toronto and Harcourt Park, and Anne Marie Powell of London. Proud and loving grandmother of Lisette, (Ron), Marc, (Christine), Matthew, (Gerlie), and Sarah, (Tyler). Great-grandmother of Sophie, Emma, Elise, Christopher, Charlotte and Anne. Predeceased by her parents, and, most recently, her two sisters, Ginette and Simone in France. She will be deeply missed by her remaining siblings, Jacqueline,(Marc), Michel,(Jacqueline), Camille, (Claudine), Bernard,(Jacqueline) and her nieces and nephews who reside in France. Suzanne was a War Bride who came to Canada to live, first in Vancouver, BC. and then to make her home with her husband in London, Ontario where they raised their three children. She came to this country not speaking English but with determination and tenacity she not only learned the language but put herself through school and became a Hairdresser opening her own shop in her home where she worked for many years until her retirement. She braved World War 2 making the long walks with her family out of Caen, where she lived; once when the Germans took over the city and a second time when the Allied Invasion began on the beaches of Normandy. It was there, in Caen, after the Invasion, that she met Roger while she cooked for the Canadian troops. He fell in love with her as she sang over a pot of soup she was making and in 1946 they made their way to Canada. After Roger died she moved to Christie Gardens in Toronto to live out the remainder of her life.
