Obituary of Steve Gligor
Gligor, Steve
On May 1, 2015 Steve Gligor passed away at the Dearness Home in London, Ontario at the age of 86. He is predeceased by his wife Maria (2003) and his son Michael (1997). He is survived by his daughter Dianne Evans (Robert) and his son Steve Gligor (Addie). Steve took great pride in his grandchildren Ryan (Nadine), Rhianna (Jason), Sean (Marla) and Roberta (Jesse) and his four great grandchildren Neisa, Arianna, Domenic and Dayanara. Born and raised in Uzice, Serbia before he immigrated to Canada in June 1951 arriving in Montreal with fifty pounds. It was difficult to find work in Montreal as he did not speak French while learning the English language. He moved to Port Arthur where he found work as a camp clerk on the Ontario Paper Co. gratefully accepting a position and then quickly spent his last $5.00 on a book about timekeeping so he could learn the trade while on the train to his new job. From there to Toronto where he followed his love of finance, went to school and made a career in accounting climbing the ladder at several car dealerships in Toronto, Oakville and finally settling in London with a position and eventual partnership in Centreal Chev and Olds in 1961. With his young family and a career which he took pride in, bonding in friendship with the people he worked with, many of whom he remained friends with to his last days, life was good. Dad never did anything half way and always strived to be the best at whatever he chose to do. He was a long time member of Sunningdale where he won the Seniors Championship 5 times with 5 more championships on the course in their winter home in Delray Beach, FLA. Golf was his passion. Neuropathy and restlesss leg syndrome had challenged our Dad for many years and he eventually was forced to give up his game which left a void that was never filled. Our family will always hold our cherished memories of our Dad, Grandfather and Great Grampa in our hearts. WE are comforted by the fact that we know he is smiling now taking his first swing on the tee with our Mom by his side and our little brother Michael his caddy. Heartfelt thanks to the Care Team at Dearness Home with special hugs for Laura for her ongoing support to our family and her devotion to our Dad's comfort and care in his final days. Visitors will be received at John T. Donohue Funeral Home, 362 Waterloo Street at King Street, on Tuesday, May 5th from 2-5 pm, where the funeral service will be held on Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock. Interment in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Donations are gratefully accepted to Neuromuscular Clinic c/o London Health Sciences Foundation (lhsf.ca)
