Obituary of Marianne Dalglish

Marianne Dalglish Peacefully with family members present, Marianne Dalglish, wife of Francis William Dalglish of London Ontario, daughter of Fritz and Johanna Frank of Berlin, mother of Frank, Fran, Peter and Michael. Grandmother to Michelle,Michael,Peter & Annelie. Great grandmother to Sam. Born and raised in Berlin, she saw her city destroyed during World War II, witnessed the Allied airlift in 1945 that brought lifesaving food and medicine to its residents, and then celebrated its rebirth as one of the great European centres of culture and learning. Marianne graduated from the University of Heidelberg, and was encouraged to move to Canada in the 1950's by her father Fritz Frank, the Chairman of the Board Audi. She worked at the Volkswagen Canada (first female employee) head office on the Golden Mile in Toronto, where she met her future husband William (Bill) Dalglish. She appreciated beauty in all its forms, whether it be a well-designed car (German, of course) or one of her favorite hotels, which included Eden Au Lac in Zurich, the Atlantic Hotel In Hamburg, and the Park Plaza in Toronto. She enjoyed summers at Lake Simcoe, extensive travel with her husband Bill, auto shows in Geneva and Frankfurt, and the company of the Volkswagen fraternity in Canada and around the world. Animals were among her favorite companions, and in her memory the enclosure for bears at the Berlin Zoo-a place she loved as a child-- will be redesigned and expanded to provide the animals with the best possible environment. The family would like to thank staff at the McCormick Home in London ON for the kind and professional care that our mother received over the past three years. In particular, thanks to Dr. Birch, RN Kerri & Marry Anne, and RPN Ilene who took a special interest in our mother's well being. The real angels at McCormick are the PSW's who work so professionally to make sure each resident is comfortable. Over the last three years many PSW's have cared for our mother but special thanks to Kim, Angie, and Jeff. Visitors will be received at the John T. Donohue Funeral Home, 362 Waterloo Street at King Street, London, on Tuesday, December 2nd from 7-9 o'clock. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Peter's Cathedral Basilica on Wednesday, December 3rd at 10 o'clock. Interment in St. Peter's Cemetery.
