Berte passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family at St. Joseph Hospice, London Ontario on Friday, October 25th, in her 90th year.  Beloved wife of Paul Grandy.  She was predeceased by her parents, Ida and Thomas Spearns of Halifax, Nova Scotia, sisters Mary, Reta and Genny, brothers Ralph, Bob and John.  Survived by daughters Lindy (Lynn Gamble) of Coldstream, Meredith (Robert Hartzog) of Houston, Texas; sons Kevin (Ramona) of Niagara, Clay (Joan) of London, Colin (Holly) of London and Graeme of Grand Bend; and sister Theresa Spearns of Halifax.  Berte will be dearly missed by her grandchildren Jenna, Shannon, Jaime, Luke, Kraig, Kyle, Brady, Heather, Nick, Rob, Tom, Matthew, Amy and Sarah.  Greatly loved by Great Grandchildren Ashlynn, Iya, Jaxon, Kendall, Danica, Taylor, Chase and Kayden. 

Berte was a stay at home, loving mother who was passionate about helping others and volunteering. She was a devoted CWL member for 64 years and was the queen of funeral lunches at St. Michael’s Church and a volunteer at Marian Villa. She was a long time parishioner of St. Michael’s, now a member of Christ the King University Parish.  Berte will be remembered for her witty personality, who would light up a room just with her smile. She will be greatly missed.

Visitors will be received at Christ the King University Parish at Windermere on the Mount, 1486 Richmond Street North, London, on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 from 10 am until the time of the Funeral Mass at 12 noon.  Cremation with private family interment at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates donations made to St. Joseph’s Hospice of London.
