I am saddened to hear about Peter's passing. I offer my heartfelt condolences to you and your family.
Peter was a great friend and colleague for more than 25 years. He was a true gentleman, always calm, fun to work with and be with. I have fond memories of working with Peter in different teams, remembering that he had a great ability to defend and debate what he believed in, aimed high and achieved the results he wanted. We will miss him.
I pray for patience and strength for you and your family in this difficult time.

Dear Laurence and family:
Peter moved you all to Ottawa for his 'industry exchange', that he might come to understand how government works. He was assigned to my wee team in Industry Canada to learn about policy development. Open minded and keen, Peter was a sterling addition to government, with a rare capacity to recognize and shape good policy. He shed his industry hat easily and it did not take long for me to gladly propose that he run our team, allowing him exposure to a greater range of files and contacts. A born leader, Peter fit in extremely well and genuinely enjoyed the nature and the challenge of our work.
Peter called me to his cubicle on that fateful day, 9/11, where he had live news on his computer. Its hard to believe now but we had only just, just gained access to internet on our government computers at that time, and only he knew how to access the net for such things. One of our team had moved to Columbia in NYC that same week, and another junior officer was caught in the military lockdown surrounding the Pentagon in DC. Peter's compassion and wisdom as we tracked down and supported these young people, and as we faced the subsequent changes in perspective that terrible event triggered was outstanding. Never again did we enter our office or board a plane freely, without security.
He understood how the new technologies would change things, and I recall our many debates on tough policy questions, and developing workable solutions to challenges faced by government, by industry and by society. He really enjoyed the challenge and I recall, when it his three year assignment was coming to an end, he wished aloud that he could stay on in government, for he truly enjoyed public service and felt it suited to it, which he was.
Peter never failed to brighten my day during those years. And I will always recall the wonderful dinner you two hosted for our team at your beautiful home, and the delicious rum cake for dessert. I will think of you both when I use that recipe again this coming Christmas.
Wishing everyone the strength and courage to know how lucky we were to know him, and to share our life journey with him for as long as we did. He was a rare and a good person who is missed.
Fondly, Heather Amys in Ottawa

One of Peter’s legacies lies in the North-east end of Sarnia....Blackwell Trails park. Formerly a landfill site, the park is adjacent to Errol Road East, where Peter and his family lived for a number of years. As the landfill was moving toward closure, Peter formed a citizens group of neighbours to work with the site operator to effect an orderly closure. I was part of that group and will forever appreciate his leadership and vision of what that landfill COULD be someday.
It would make him very happy to see the transformation of the landfill into one of the city’s most significant natural parklands today. Many animals have made their home there, and the park is part of the Howard Watson trail system, a Sarnia gem used daily through the year, in all weather, by joggers, cyclists, walkers and nature-lovers. After many years of diligence and effort, spearheaded at first by Peter, Sarnia has this treasured asset to enjoy for generations to come.
Peter was a gentleman, a colleague (worked with him at Imperial), a serious guy who knew when NOT to be serious, and someone who understood the importance of environmental stewardship, long before it became a watchword.
Rest In Peace, Peter, and God bless your family in this difficult time.

We are so saddened by your loss. We too shall miss our dear friend.
Peter was an amazing man, full of spirit, integrity, kindness, determination and always so much fun to be around. We will miss his big smile and his tidbits of wisdom and his impish little boy sense of humour. We will also remember his determination to not give up his wine. It is so "Peter". In the future, every glass of red wine will bring our good friend to mind and we shall toast him with a tear and a smile.
We know he appreciated the love and care that you have given him, not only through this difficult illness, but always. When Peter spoke of any of you, it was with sincere pride and love. You were his rock and you were his purpose. It was always about Family. Always remember that.
Now hold hands and lean on each other to make your way.
You are in our thoughts and prayers.
Love, Deb & Gerry

Peter is fondly remembered by his colleagues in the Chemistry Industry Association of Canada. His fierce intellect, combined with a warm and generous orientation made him a highly respected, and much loved colleague.
While a few years have passed since he retired and ceased engagements with the association and its members, his name still regularly comes up in conversations.
We extend our deepest condolences to Peter's family in this time of loss. Clearly, you all deserved much more time together following what Peter's very successful and demanding business career.
Sincerely,
Bob Masterson

Peter was a huge contributor to the Chemistry Industry Association regarding environment/health policy and regulation. He chaired committees and always represented well his views and that of Imperial in complex and sensitive issues. Most important, he was a pleasure to work with. It is always sad to see someone pass away at what I now consider to be a relatively young age. Richard Paton, retired President Chemistry Industry Association.

I am so sorry for your your loss. Peter was a wonderful and very clever man. I enjoyed my time at Waterloo and Chemetics with Peter. Peter was the bright light that I looked to. I recall a time in our Thermodynamics class. Professor Enns told us that we could answer the question in any units that we wanted, as long as it was correct. This was the time that we still used imperial units. Peter answer was in. “ frigery furkins per furkin fortnight”. How long would it take Professor Enns to decrypt the correct answer.
Peter will be remembered.
