Oh Jeannette, you were the youngest aunt, always of that youthful spirit. And with your wide smile, easy laughter, and your caring demeanor. It started for Maritime visitors on Grosvenor St. in the 1960s, with scores of young cousins and still young aunts and uncles, in huge family get-togethers. Then while visiting Port Stanley in the late-70s Jeannette eagerly 'enlisted' this willing nephew to work on her beloved garden. For 3 full days in humid May, Jeannette's large garden and house perimeter was tilled and re-tilled, landscaped, the old growth replaced with new. It was like Christmas in May for Jeannette! The way she beamed her trademark smile regarding her garden, seeing Grammy give her approving smile and wave from inside the window, and knowing that when I got back home my Dad would be pleased that I toiled for his little sis ... made the sunburn and soreness all worth it.
With Jeannette, it is the last of the 'old guard', and the torch is passed down, with all of Jeannette's special qualities left with us. I am thankful and feel fortunate for all this. My heartfelt condolences to the London clan.
