Harding, Walter PETER Holmes, KStJ – Deputy Chief (Retired) City of London Fire Department, proud member of The Order of St. John, London & Area Food Bank, Irish Benevolent Society London Ontario, Knights of Columbus St. Peter’s Cathedral Basilica Council #13404, The 4th Degree Jerome P. McNamara Assembly #2575. Peacefully at home on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at the age of 81 with his loving wife of 57 years Janet Marguerite (nee Rawlings) by his side. Predeceased by his parents Walter Gilbert and Agnes Isabel (nee McDowell) of London, ON. He will be greatly missed by his children Shaune (Ian), Peter, Paul (Eni), Janet I (Glenn). Beloved Papa to David, Kathleen, Nicholas and Caileigh. Dear brother of John G. (Ann Marie).
Peter dedicated his life to the services of others, after 38 years with the London Fire Service retiring in 1998. He volunteered 37 years with the St. John Ambulance Brigade obtaining the rank of Provincial Superintendent; was a chartered member of the London Area Food Bank board of directors and served on the Irish Benevolent Society board of directors for many years. Peter spent his retirement continuing to volunteer tirelessly for the church, Knights of Columbus and the London community.
Friends will be received at the John T. Donohue Funeral Home, 362 Waterloo Street at King Street, on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 o’clock. Prayers Friday afternoon at 3:45. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter’s Cathedral Basilica, 196 Dufferin Avenue at Richmond Street, on Saturday, December 8th at 12 noon. Burial will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. John Ambulance or the London Food Bank would be appreciated by the family. Members of the Knights of Columbus will provide an honour guard at the funeral home.
