Megan: I remember going to visit Nana and Bill when we were little. We would always start by playing with the dogs and throwing their stuffed hedgehogs for them. When Bill figured that they had enough, he would tell us that we could go get something from the candy drawer as a treat.
Meredith: I remember feeling very special when Bill gave me some sleigh bells as a little girl - he knew how much I loved horses. It was also a treat to go out for lunch with him and Nana.
Both girls: Other highlights included the Bean Fest and Christmas. We made a special trip up to the cottage and had a great time seeing all the displays along the street through the village. At Christmas Bill would take on the clean up following the meal so we could play Scategories with Nana. He would join in teasing her about the outrageous answers she came up with.

I remember Bill coming with Wyn to the hospital when our first daughter was born. It was so good to see Mom happy again. He had my favour from the first time he spoke with his lilting Newfoundland accent. It made adjusting to life in "Upper Canada" a little bit easier.
Oral tradition is still a big part of Maritime culture and Bill's tales of life in Newfoundland were almost as good as being there. He talked about school, his family and all the trouble he used to get into as a little guy. In addition it was great to have someone to share a longing for things from the East Coast like "Jigg's Dinner, barley toys and fat molasses cookies.
Visits to the cottage were a highlight for our children growing up, especially as my family were so far away. He was always welcoming and never cross while being a wonderful grandfather - witnessing our girls growing from tiny bundles through graduation from elementary school and on to becoming young ladies. He showed Ron how to manage reverse in his Ghia as with most things, Bill had been there and done that.
He will be remembered with great fondness as he made an impact on each life he touched with his gentle teasing and caring ways.
