Obituary of Phyllis Deane
Phyllis M. Deane (nee Sproule) passed away peacefully at University Hospital in London, Ontario on April 6, 2018 in her 95th year. Beloved wife of the late Jack Deane (2000), predeceased by her daughter Gerrie (2017), and survived by her children Don, Kenneth and his wife Karen. Dear sister of Joan (the late John) Jackson, Carol (the late Jack) Watt, Coral (Leonard) Somerville, Marion Kowal, Marg (Jack) Inwood, Jean (the late Ben) Barbary, and Helen (the late Bert) Trombly. Phyllis was predeceased by her brothers Merlin, Harold, Wilmer, Arnold, Elwood, Floyd, and her sister Irene Rhodes. Phyllis is survived by many nieces and nephews. Daughter of the late Thomas and Maxine Sproule (McDougall), Phyllis was born on August 7, 1923 in Canonto Township in Eastern Ontario. Phyllis served in the Canadian Women’s Army Corps during WW2. She was stationed in Ottawa where she met Jack and they were married in 1944. They moved to Jack’s hometown of London in 1945. Phyllis worked for Avon, McCormicks, Eaton’s, and Simpsons.
Our thanks to the caring staff of the Victorian Order of Nurses who provided Mom with wonderful support and companionship while she was at home, and the staff and physicians at University Hospital. We are indebted and grateful to the staff and physicians in palliative care who provided Mom with compassionate and professional care and who made Mom feel comfortable, peaceful, and safe.
The funeral Mass will be held at St. George Catholic Church in London on April 10, 2018 at 11am. Interment in St. Peter’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Joseph’s Hospitality Centre would be appreciated. (John T. Donohue Funeral Home)
