It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mary McLaughlin,
on Sunday September 3, 2017. Reunited with the love of her life Albert
(Bert) McLaughlin (1991). Lovingly cherished by her children Teresa and
Rob Grimminck, Mary Ellen and Christopher Osborne, Rita and George Turpie,
Joan McLaughlin, and Patrick and Chantal McLaughlin. Loving grandmother of
Robert and Rachel, Michael, Matthew and Amanda, Nicholas and Lindsey,
Steven and Megan Grimminck. Christine, Justin and Stephanie, and Dane
Osborne. Kyle, Andrew, Katherine, and Grierson Turpie, Jory, Spencer, and
Liam McLaughlin. Proud great grandmother to Catherine Mary and Allister
Jay Grimminck. Dear sister of Joe and Joanne DeGurse, Teresa and Don
Young, Jim and Stephanie DeGurse and Tom (2013) and Mary DeGurse. Sister
in law to Gladys Dymond, Eleanor McLaughlin, and Joan McLaughlin. She will
be missed by her many nieces and nephews. Mary was born on the tenth line
in Moore township, Corunna on June 16, 1931 to Frank and Helen DeGurse.
She lived and worked on the family farm until she left to attend Normal
School in London to become a teacher. She taught for 44 years with the
last 18 years of her career at Holy Cross. Throughout her teaching career,
she touched many students' lives and they touched hers. Mary’s caring ways
were demonstrated by initiating a breakfast program when she saw the need.
She was the founder of the Holy Cross Christmas turkey dinner, which
continued after her retirement. Mary was very active as a volunteer. She
was a long time member of the Holy Cross CWL. As her children, we always
felt very proud and fortunate that she was our mother. Visitors will be
received at the John T. Donohue Funeral Home, 362 Waterloo Street at King
Street, on Wednesday, September 6th from 2-4 and 7-9 o’clock. Prayers
will be held on Wednesday evening at 8:30 p.m. A celebration of her life
will be held at St Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, 377 Oakland Avenue in
London on Thursday morning, September 7th at 11 o’clock. Interment in St.
Peter’s Cemetery. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation will be
greatly appreciated.
