Obituary of Iveranda Lewkowitz
Dr. Iveranda Lewkowitz Peacefully at Highview Residences on Friday February 26, 2016, Iveranda Lewkowitz in her 91st year. Beloved wife of the late Richard Walter Lewkowitz (2011). Dear mother of Karen Lewkowitz (and her dear friend Jim) and Robert Lewkowitz and his wife Lori. Loving grandmother of Nathan, Lindsay, Marlo and Alex. Predeceased by her seven brothers and sisters, Ivo, Ivai, Ivanice, Ivan, Ilka, Ivalda, Ivanda. An incredibly intense and driven woman, our mom, "Ivy", became a school teacher in Brazil at the young age of 16 in order to pay her way through medical school at the Universidade do Brasil. After graduating in 1956 she left her large extended family to follow Walter to Canada. Learning English while writing the Canadian Medical exams in a male dominated profession at the time, mom fulfilled her dream since the age of two to be a Physician.
Truly loved by her many patients, mom was old-school: house-calls and office visits with patients at all hours of day or night, delivered well over 2,000 babies spanning three generations of patients, counseling and Psychiatric treatment with a strong dose of spiritual and motherly guidance.
Mom would aid new immigrants and the under-privileged and give you the shirt off her back, but if you were out of line, she'd be the first to set you straight. She ruled with strength and compassion. Her love for animals and children reflected her advocacy for those that were most vulnerable. She provided a loving home with a worldly vision, for which we are forever grateful. Go mom, and be reunited with dad, your parents and siblings, till we too are reunited with you in God's love and grace. The family will gather privately to celebrate her life. Interment at St. Peter's Cemetery, London. (John T. Donohue Funeral Home.)
