Obituary of George Joseph Mussolum

Mussolum, George Joseph October 15, 1924 - August 12, 2011 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of George J. Mussolum at the age of 86 years after a long battle with cancer and kidney disease. He is survived by his sons Michael and Stewart, daughters-in-law Sharon and Joyce Byrne and grandchildren Matthew and Kathleen. He is predeceased by his wife June Leon (nee Dawson), his parents, brothers Abraham and Michael, sisters Louise, Joan, Margaret, Hubba. He is also survived by his sisters Marie and Edna. Gunner Mussolum served his country with distinction during WW II (fighting in France, Holland, Belgium and Germany) and during the Cold War as a loyal and dedicated soldier in the Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery. He rose to the rank of Warrant Officer, Second Class (WO II) and completed his military service with the 12th Field Battery, 7th Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery. George had a long and diverse 35 year civilian career as a public servant for the City of London. He served on many church, school and community committees and was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion for many decades. A Memorial Celebration of his life will be held at the John T. Donohue Funeral Home, 362 Waterloo Street at King Street on Friday morning August 19, 2011 at 12 Noon. With visitation between the hours of 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. WO II Mussolum will be laid to rest following a modest military service at St. Peter's Cemetery, 806 Victoria Street. The reception is to take place following the graveside service at the Duchess of Kent Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion, 499 Hill Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the Canadian Kidney Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.
