Sister Grace Scharbach
Sister Grace Scharbach (Mary Magdalen) of the community of the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Diocese of London died peacefully on February 26, 2009 at the residence of the Sisters of St. Joseph. Sister was in her 87th year and 59th year of religious life. Lovingly remembered by her sisters, Therese Scharbach of Livonia, MI and Frances Lewis and her husband Wendell of Hamilton, ON; brothers-in-law Leo Murray of Lucknow and Leo O'Connor of Brighton, MI; many nieces and nephews and the Sisters of her religious community. Predeceased by her parents Stephen Scharbach and Helen Beninger formerly of Riversdale; her brothers Jack, Lawrence, Bernard and sisters Helen, Genevieve, Margaret Mary and Imelda. Throughout her years in religious life, Sister taught school in London, LaSalette, Leamington, Tillsonburg and Zurich. After retiring from teaching, she was involved in various ministries including catechetics in Kelowna, B.C. Sister also ministered to her Sisters at Mount St. Joseph in several capacities, including executive housekeeper and in the accounts office for over a decade. Sister enjoyed spending time with her family and friends at their homestead in Riversdale where fine food, bridge and gardening were eager pursuits. In failing health and difficult times, she exhibited a resolute spirit and quiet determination. All services for Sister will be held at the residence of the Sisters of St. Joseph, 485 Windermere Road, London. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 27 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm with the wake service on Friday evening at 7 pm. Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Saturday, February 28 at 11 am presider Rev. Dan Rocheleau, assisted by Rev. David Lewis of Kitchener, nephew of Sister Grace. Interment in St. Peter's Cemetery.
