Obituary of Robert James Braithwaite

Braithwaite Robert James Braithwaite, 87, passed away in Parkwood Hospital Palliative Care, London, Ontario on Monday, August 20, 2007. Much loved husband and companion of the late Margaret M. Braithwaite (2005). Father of Sharon Cox (Dave), Donald Braithwaite (Karen), Barbara Braithwaite, Ellen Haasen (John). Grandfather of Becky Braithwaite and Wendi Braithwaite Tashlikowich, D'Arcy Cox, Andrea and Colin Braithwaite, Katrina and Anna Haasen. Great-grandfather of Jaden and Ryann Tashlikowich. Predeceased by his son Robert G. Braithwaite (1999) and granddaughter Johanna M. Haasen (1985). Dad married his childhood sweetheart Margie Chisholm in 1942 and spent 4 years in the Royal Canadian Air Force out in Calgary, Alberta. Back in London, he was a skilled and hardworking watchmaker, jeweller, avid boat builder, sailor and woodworker. Bob was always game for a spirited debate and a cold beer in the company of family and friends. We would like to extend our most sincere gratitude to Tony and Pat Elmslie for their steadfast friendship, neighbours Tubby Dickerson and Betty Duncan, Gerry, Irene and Chris May for their gift of time and concern for Dad's welfare. Their kindness helped allow him to remain in his home as long as possible. We are indebted to all of Dad's Home Care workers, especially Monica, Betty R.N., Christine and Margaret for not only their help and expertise, but also for their companionship. We thank Dr. Dana Winterburn, and the staff of the Byron Family Medical Centre, Dr. Lock at the London Regional Cancer Centre, and all the staff in Palliative Care at Parkwood for all their care, encouragement and compassion. Visitors will be received at John T. Donohue Funeral Home, 362 Waterloo Street at King Street, on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 o'clock, where the memorial funeral service will be held on Wednesday afternoon at 1 o'clock. Interment in St. Peter's Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Palliative Care Ward at Parkwood Hospital of the Charity of your choice would be gratefully received.
