Florence May passed away peacefully at Kensington Village Nursing Home on May 25th, 2007, at the age of 96. Beloved wife of the late Vernon Nicholas Baratta (1996), and loving mother of Nicholas Baratta and wife Alice, Helen Bullas, Bill Baratta and wife Robin. Devoted Grandmother of Mike Bullas and wife Beverly, Deborah Bullas-Rubini and husband Frank, Sean and Corey Baratta. Special Great-Grandmother of Adam, Kyle and Julia Rubini. Florence Gaskin was born in Birmingham England on Oct 8, 1910. She sailed to Canada in 1920 with her youngest brother as orphans known as the Barnardo Home for Children. Leaving foster care at the age of 18, Florence moved to London seeking work, where she met and married Vernon Baratta in 1934. Florence worked for Eatons for years in womens' fasions and reluctantly retired when the management realized that she was well over the age of 65. At home, Florence could often be found working in one of her many flower beds, enjoying the birds, or cooking a Sunday dinner to gather the family. Vernon and Florence were married for 62 years until his sudden death in 1996. All those years Vernon often referred to Florence as his young lady. Florence remained living in her house until 2001, when she moved into Kensington Village Retirement Home. Visitation will be held at the John T. Donohue Funeral Home 362 Waterloo St., on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. where the funeral will take place on Tuesday, May 29th, 2007 at 11:00 o'clock with interment to follow at St. Peters Cemetery.
