Obituary of Sister Mary Kieran Mary Elizabeth Woods

Sister Mary Kieran Woods At Mount St. Joseph, on Sunday, November 14, 2004 Sister Mary Kieran Woods (Mary Elizabeth) of the Community of the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Diocese of London in her 82nd year and her 62nd year of religious life. Lovingly remembered by her sisters in community and by sisters Kay Ryan and Rose Marie McQuaid and her brother Patrick Woods (Helen). All of her siblings were with her at her death and surrounded her with their love and prayer as she slipped away. A next generation of nieces and nephews remember their aunt with affection. Predeceaesed by her brother Joseph in 1952, her mother Elizabeth (Betty) in 1949 and her father Patrick in 1962. Sister Mary Kieran was born in Dublin Ontario and both a strong Irish faith and a deep love of music were nurtured in her home. The piano, violin and dance were an integral part of her growing up years. Throughout her years in community, her family continued to play a central role in her life. She trained as a music teacher and took this love of music to others in London, Sarnia, Leamington, Edmonton and Yellowknife. Also for nearly 25 year she taught music in St. Thomas where she developed many relationships with students and friends. One of the gifts she gave to the larger community was to offer lessons to some students who might not otherwise be able to afford them. In 1994, Sister Mary Kieran move to Mount St. Joseph in London and continued to minister in pastoral care at Marion Villa. It was only the day before her death that she made arrangements for the last of her few remaining students to move to another teacher. She appreciated the simple things in life and lived with a determination of spirit. In remembering her life, we appreciate her insistence that gifts given to her would be shared with others in need. Visitors will be received at Mount St. Joseph Motherhouse, 1486 Richmond Street, London, on Tuesday from 1:30 -4 and 6:30-9 o'clock. A prayer service will be held on Tuesday evening at 7:30 o'clock.
