Sister Mary Agnes Smith At Ignatia Hall, Mount St. Joseph, on Thursday, June 17, 2004 Sister Mary Agnes Smith (Agnes Smith) of the Community of the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Diocese of London in her 93rd year and her 74th year of religious life. Lovingly remembered by her sisters, Alice (Beavis) and Frances (Hamilton), nephew Jim Hamilton. Predeceased by her parents William Smith and Mary Ellen (Gornell). Sister Mary Agnes attended normal school (London Teachers College) in 1932-33. She received an Education Certificate in 1936, Industrial Arts and Crafts certificate in 1947, a B.A. from the University of Western Ontario in 1950, Permanent Highschool Assistant Certificate 1951, Permanent Intermediate Commercial Certificate 1959 and Permanent Elementary Teachers' Certificate 1962. Her teaching career spanned elementary schools and Highschools in South Western Ontario from Leamington, Windsor, London, Sarnia, LaSalette to her birthplace of St. Thomas. Serving the poor was a high priority for Sister Mary Agnes. In 1979, after retiring from teaching she ministered to Women in Need at 534 Queens Ave. In her latter years Sister Mary Agnes was very active at Mount St. Joseph, capable of many secretarial tasks and offering hospitality to all. Continuing to be involved in work with the poor, she could be seen in her office rolling money for the Soup Kitchen. Sister Mary Agnes will be warmly remembered for her gracious and dignified way by her CSJ Sisters, by family, friends, staff and by all who cared for her in Ignatia Hall. Resting at Mount St. Joseph Motherhouse, 1486 Richmond Street, on Friday June 18, 2004, from 2-4 and 7-9 o'clock. Vigil service at Mount St. Joseph Motherhouse, 1486 Richmond Street, on Friday evening at 7:30 o'clock. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated in Immaculate Conception Chapel, Mount St. Joseph Motherhouse, 1486 Richmond Street, on Saturday morning, June 19, 2004 at 10 o'clock.
