Obituary of Walter Joseph Rudnicki

RUDNICKI, Walter Joseph It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Walter (Walt) Joseph Rudnicki, in his 80th year at University Hospital, London, on Thursday, August 1. Pre-deceased by his parents, Anthony & Mary (Cwik) Rudnicki. Survived by his loving & caring wife, Edith (Langford, Booth). Lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his children Debbie (Pat), John, Douglas (Livia) and 2 grandchildren. Walter was able to spread his big heart, filled with love to an extended family with his wife Edith. He will be truly missed, with lots of love from children Barry, Debbie (deceased 1990), Kelly (Howard), Jeff (Sandy) and Lisa (John). This wonderful blended family expanded to add 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren of Walt's. Walt was immensely proud of each and every one of them. Walter is also survived by his beautiful twin sister Helen (Don) and pre-deceased by sister Caroline (2007). Walter's love also spread out to his many beloved nieces and nephews, who adored him. Walter had a cotillion of friends over the years. He was an immensely social man, especially in his neighborhood in which he lived for over 40 years. He treated everyone the same and always made people smile with his sense of humour, even into his final days prior to his stay in hospital this past week. Walter had a dictionary all his own of the english language which he shared with new members of the family. And he never backed down from a discussion or debate with anyone on politics, world affairs or the local London news. The family is most grateful to the amazing staff on the Palliative Care ward on the 6th floor, University Hospital. We will always be indebted to the nursing staff on this wing for their compassion, kindness, attentiveness and gentle care towards Walter. They are our unsung heroes in this world. One special note also, to niece Kim Madsen. Kim is a caring and loving nurse at LHSC and we want to thank her for her love & support over the last few months, especially this past week. She was there with Walter that morning when he passed away and made sure he was not alone. Visitation will be held at John T. Donohue Funeral Home, 362 Waterloo Street at King Street, London on Monday, August 5 from 7 to 9 o'clock. The Funeral Mass will take place at St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, 377 Oakland Avenue, London, on Tuesday, August 6 at 11 o'clock, reception to follow. Interment in St. Peter's Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
