Obituary of Genevieve Murphy

Murphy, Genevieve Bernice (Roux) Died peacefully surrounded by members of her family on June 11, 2013 in Oakville at the age of 89. Wife of the late Norman Murphy, dear Mother of Noreen of Vancouver; Margaret (Bob) of Halifax ; Mary of Maple Ridge, B.C. ; Barbara Zimmermann (Ron) of Niagara-on-the -Lake ; Gregory (Lynn) of Oakville. Grandmother of Sara, Rachel, Jessica, Brianna, Eric and Ryan. Great Grandmother of Kieran, Ayla and Marika. Daughter of the late Henry and Bessie Roux, Sister of Gabriel Demers of Victoria and the late Rolland Vanderveer and Mary (Gooden). Genevieve was born on a farm in Saskatchewan and became a Registered Lab Technician who trained in Toronto and worked in Calgary and many years later, while she was raising her family, worked at St. Joseph's Hospital in London in the microbiology department and later virology. She enjoyed the arts, particularly the theatre and in later years, took up painting which she delighted in and excelled at. She found immense joy in all that her Family did and she knew how to be a loyal friend. She will be remembered for her kindness, strength and sense of humour. Above all, she always wanted to do the right thing. And she did. She will be greatly missed. The Family would like to offer a special thanks to the staff at Ian Anderson House for allowing her to have such a peaceful, dignified passing. For the convenience of friends from the Oakville area a reception to celebrate her life will be held at Churchill Place, 345 Church Street, Oakville on Saturday, June 15, 2013 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Cremation has taken place. Visitors will be received at John T. Donohue Funeral Home, 362 Waterloo Street at King Street, London, on Sunday afternoon, June 16 from 2- 5 o'clock. Funeral Mass at St. Michael's Church, 511 Cheapside Street, London, on Monday morning, June 17 at 10 o'clock. Interment in St. Peter's Cemetery at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Doctors' Without Borders or Ian Anderson House, P.O. Box 61034, 511 Maple Grove Dr. Oakville, Ontario L6J 7P5.
