At Parkwood Hospital on February 27, 2003 Brigadier General William Patrick Doohan, O.B.E., ED., of London, aged 88. Beloved husband of Hilda (Pat) Doohan for 59 years. Loving father of Pat (Brian Flood) of Toronto, Jim (Pierrette) Doohan of Edmonton. Mary Doohan (Lehrman) of Western Springs, Il., and George Doohan of Carvel, Alberta. Dear grandfather to Michael Flood (Jill Burgin) and Christopher Flood, Patrick and Emily Doohan, Maggie and Michael Lehrman. Brother of James (Wende) Doohan of Wa, USA. Brother-in-law to Joan Doohan of Sarnia, Ivy, Doris and Roy in the U.K. Also remembered by nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his brother Tom and sister Margaret. A reserve member at age 17, he joined the Royal Canadian Artillery at Sarnia in September 1939. While serving in the U.K. with the 8th Fd., RCA, he was attached to 1st British Army in North Africa in 1943 then returned to the 8th Fd in Italy. He commanded 2nd Fd., RCA in Italy and Northwest Europe. During hostilities he was awarded the O.B.E. and was mentioned in dispatches. Following the war he reorganized the 7th Fd RCA in London. While serving with the 18th Militia Group, he rose to the rank of Brig. Gen, retiring in October 1965. Bill worked for the Federal Government from 1946-1976 with the Department of Veteran Affairs and later the Department of Supply and Services in London, Ottawa and Port Credit, retiring as Director of Supply for Ontario. An active member of St. Martin's Church, Past President of Highland Golf Club, Chairman, Past President and Life Governor of the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires, Past President and Life Governor of the Vimy Branch Canadian Legion, and a member of other organizations. Many thanks to Parkwood Hospital staff 5B South for compassionate care over Bill's last years. The family will receive friends at John T. Donohue Funeral Home, 362 Waterloo Street at King Street, on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 o'clock. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Martin's Church, 46 Cathcart Street, on Saturday morning March 1, 2003 at 9:30 o'clock. Interment in St. Peter's Cemetery. Prayers Friday evening at 7:30. Donations in his memory may be made to the Parkwood Hospital Foundation.
