Obituary of George Francis MacKinnon

MacKinnon, George Francis It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of George MacKinnon at University Hospital on June 1, 2012. Loving husband of our late mother Helen ('Nanny Schultz', 2006). Beloved father to Steven, Debbie, Peter (Jennifer), John (Lynn), Laurie (Derek Sardo), Paul, Neil, Tracy (Greg McCormick) and David. Beloved 'Papa G' to Andrew, James 'Scotty', Brandon, Daniel, Jordan, Gabrielle, Brooke, Kirby, Emma and Jack. Dear brother to Vera Barrett, brother-in-law to Margie Berry, Gord Kennedy and Rene Leroux. Predeceased by siblings Ray, Norbert, Iris, Urban, Philip, Rita and Theresa. George was born and raised in Grand River, PEI. He left to start his career in Ottawa and subsequently served his country in the navy during WWII. After the war, he moved to Montreal, where he had a rewarding career as an auditor for Revenue Canada, and met his future wife, Helen Kennedy, at the NDG Tennis Club. In 1968, they moved with their expanding family and settled in London where their '9 angels' were raised and educated. George worked well beyond his retirement years, enjoying his own accounting practice, which gave him time to focus on family, church and community. He was an active member for almost 40 years of St. Pius X/Holy Family Parish, and served on the St. Peter's Cemetery Board, as well as other Boards in London. George was also an avid golfer and a member of Sunningdale Golf & Country Club; he had a remarkable 6 holes-in-one and was fortunate to have shot his age several times. Our father thoroughly enjoyed his family and would often comment that he was the lucky one to have had nine kids. Dad, we appreciate all you and Mom did to encourage our spiritual, moral and educational development. We will miss you dearly. Love the '9 angels' and the entire MacKinnon Clan. The family wishes to express our sincere gratitude for the exceptional care given to dad by the ER, Cardiology and CCU teams at UH, especially Drs. Suskin, Dias and Pringle and CCU nurse Kathy. Many thanks for the superb care provided by Armando, Margaret and Judy which allowed Dad to spend his final years enjoying an active, independent and happy life in his own home. Visitation will take place at John T. Donohue Funeral Home, 362 Waterloo St., London, on Monday, June 4, 2012 from 6-9pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Holy Family Parish (formerly St. Pius X), 777 Valetta St., London, on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at 10am. Interment to follow at St. Peter's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Share Life would be appreciated: www.sharelife.org
