Years ago, when I was a child and summer vacations meant sharing cottages with family every summer, my family, instead one summer, decided to go and visit Uncle Bill and Aunt Is in Belleville. I think they only had Wendy and Debbie then.It was a small apartment and cheap since Uncle Bill was my Mom's oldest sister, Wilma. We took day trips and slept at the relatives. I remember my Dad loved to fish so we headed to the St. Laurence. My Mom caught an electric eel which to me just looked like a huge black snake. Portugese people lived in the apartment below Aunt Is and Uncle Bill and somehow my Dad knew that eel was considered a delicacy, so we brought it home in the trunk of the car and it was put in a full tub of water in the bathroom. Tales of the catch were told and drinks were consumed. Eventually, Aunt Is came home and before anyone remembered the eel in the bathtub, in she went. I can still hear the ungodly scream that followed and out of the apartment she ran. Of course, my Dad and Uncle Bill laughed for days. The Portugese neighbours enjoyed the eel, by the way.

Aunt Isobel was an amazing woman. I spent a lot of time with her when I was younger because my Grandmother and her were the best of friends, so when I had sleepovers with Grandma Aunt Isobel was there a lot of the time. We had a lot of fun together and have so many funny memories with her. But it was her relationship with her sister/best friend that was an inspiration. The two of them showed me what a perfect relationship between sisters was all about. They were always laughing, on the phone for hours and were always joking. Aunt Isobel was an amazing woman. Now she is in heaven with so many of her loved ones but I think right now she is sitting up there with Grandma Kay laughing their heads off! Do you think there are slot machines in heaven? That would truly be heaven for the two of them. The two of them took annual trips to Las Vegas, just the two of them and they would come home with the greatest of stories. They always told me that one day when I was older they would take me with them. Unfortunately I never got to make this trip with them but a month after my Grandma passed away my mother and I took a trip to Las Vegas in honor of my Grandma Kay. We went into the Flamingo Casino (their favourite casino and the place they always stayed when they went to Las Vegas). I put money into a slot machine and before I hit the button I said this one is for you Grandma and I WON!!!! Anyways I hope that they have slot machines in heaven because the two of them will be in their glory. I am sad to know that Isobel isn't with us anymore but happy to know that her and Grandma are together again..... partners in crime. Of course she is with Bobby as well, can you imagine that reunion?
Debbie, Beth and Wendy..... My thoughts and prayers are with you and your families. She was an amazing woman and will be missed dearly. xoxoxooxox
I am sorry I won't be able to make it to the services (I hate living so far away and I am also pretty sick right now so travelling wouldn't be a good idea) but know that I am there in spirit. I will be thinking of you all.
R.I.P Aunt Isobel, you were a remarkable woman. I have many fond memories of you that will never be forgotten.
I love you all very much
Take Care,
Jennifer Baker-Gatley
