John and I were very sad to hear of the death of this kind, compassionate man. Carl was my principal at Blessed Sacrament and, in later years, a colleague to both of us. Carl was always supportive and a person you could count on for help and advice. In retirement, Carl did so much to keep us all keep connected with his regular email updates. Carl lived his life with strength and dignity. The comments on the tribute wall, particularly the ones from the HOPE members, are a great testimonial to Carl’s ability to recognize the needs of others and reach out to them.
Our sincere condolences to Carolyn and family. Rest in peace, Carl.

I knew Carl only for a short time but what a privilege it was. When I became a HOPE volunteer Carl was already a seasoned volunteer and welcomed me into the HOPE family as if I had been there for years. I remember one conference in particular, we sat beside each other. He kept me laughing the entire 3 days. My sincerest and deepest sympathy to the entire family. A great loss.

Carl taught me at St. Mary's in the '60s, he was a new teacher and we challenged him as much as we could. We were excited when he became a new father and were lucky that his sister-in-law Cathy was in our class as well! I have very fond memories of Carl, I ran into him several times throughout the years, we even took dancing classes at the same time. He was warm, thoughtful and always had a smile on his face. My condolences go to his family, may you find comfort in your cherished memories.

A very bright light has been dimmed but never will it go out. I met this wonderful gentleman and his wife at the 10 year anniversary of Operation Medusa at Garrison Petawawa and have since been blessed to know him better as a serving member of the HOPE Program under CAF Casualty Support. It was an absolute pleasure to be in carl’s company and I, and many others were blessed to have experienced that gift. He will be missed in the program. More importantly, his quiet, yet his mental sharpness was always evident. He was sweet natured but understood the reality of great loss through which and he exercised and honed great compassion in his role as a HOPE peer participant. Carl was loved by the team, the management, and certainly, I would assume those on their grief journey with whom he walked…would say the same. I will miss this beautiful man and carry his memory in my heart. My most sincere condolences to his wife, Carolyn, and family. Please know that I carry him and you all in my thoughts and prayers. Blessings, Sandy Mellish, HOPE Peer

My husband Geoff and I met Carl when we lost our son Patrick to PTSD following his time in Afghanistan. In some of the darkest days for our family Carl was the voice of HOPE for my husband on the other end of the phone. His conversations with Geoff were a helping hand during our grief journey. Later when I became a Peer volunteer we had the privilege of meeting Carl in person. We found his humour, his knowledge and his friendship such a great comfort every time we met. We will be ever grateful for Carl’s presence and his kindness. He will be missed. Rest in peace Carl.

My sincerest condolences on the loss of your husband, Dad, Grandfather and friend. I first met Carl when I joined the Hope program, he was one of the first members to welcome me, invite me to a room gathering and make me very welcomed! His kindness and generosity that he shared with me that weekend and every time we met after that will forever be an example to me to being a better human! I have no doubt his physical presence will be missed by all who knew him. May his spirit rest in peace and guide us daily!

To Carl family,
I am deeply saddened by the loss of Carl, and I want to extend my most heartfelt condolences to you during this incredibly difficult time. As the manager of the HOPE Program where he volunteered, I had the privilege of working closely with Carl and witnessing firsthand the profound impact he had on so many lives.
Carl was a pillar of kindness, compassion, and support for those who needed it most. His willingness to listen, provide guidance, and offer comfort made a difference every single day, and the void left by his passing is felt deeply by all of us.
On a personal note, I will always remember how he had a way of brightening any room with is infectious laughter. Whether it was a well-timed joke or a playful remark, his humor never failed to lift our spirits. He had an extraordinary ability to make everyone feel at ease, bringing smiles to faces, even in the most challenging times.
Please know that our thoughts are with you as you grieve the loss of someone so special. We are here for you and will always honor the legacy he left behind in our hearts and in the work we continue to do together.
With deepest sympathy,
Sophie Richard

My deepest sympathy to Carl's family. I was in the band with him at CCH for several years. I remember the summer trip to BC by train in 1961 where we had our own three cars and slept on them as we played a concert tour across Canada. They would just unhook our cars at the stops we wanted to make and put us on a side rail and then the next day hook us up to the next train going west as we continued our journey. Carl was much older than me, I was only 13, and he was part of the senior group who knew a lot of great drinking songs with harmony and we would sing them in the train stations for all the people waiting for their trains. He was lots of fun and always smiling. That is how I will remember him. May he rest in peace.
