Michelle, Catherine, Patti and John, we were saddened to hear of your Dad's passing. He truly was a wonderful man. We have so many memories of our times together, both in London and Dyers Bay at Cobblestone Cottage. Our boys will always remember the Canada Day and Fourth of July parades at Dyers Bay, with Paul driving the little tractor and the kids in the wagon. Your Dad had a great sense of humour and so very, very kind. Rest in Peace Paul. A life well lived and a man well loved.

We were good friends and neighbours with Paul and his family, both on Cathcart St and at Dyers Bay, along with our good friends Terry Harper, Vince Hart and Leo Donahue. We have too many great memories to count, but now with a sad feeling of loss. Paul was fiercely loyal, very kind and helpful, always with a smile on his face and a twinkle in hi eye, the kind of guy you always wanted in your corner. Thanks for the memories Paul , we'll miss you every day.

To Paul’s Family –
Please accept my deepest sympathy in the loss of Paul. I’m so sorry. We grew up together in Stratford, and continued our friendship here in London. He visited our home regularly and taught our children how to swim. I will always remember his sincerity, his warm welcoming ways, and how he reached out to everyone. And he loved fun! Do know my caring thoughts are with you. Peace . . . Norma (Dunn) Clare London

I first met Paul about 13 years ago when I moved into the condo next door to Paul. right from the start he was welcoming, warm and kind. I was say the kindest and gentlest man i have had the pleasure to know. He would come to my door or balcony and ask if I was busy and then wave a bottle of rum. I was never too busy for Paul and not just for the rum and coke, it was mine sometimes.
I still keep a bottle of rum and coke for him and occasionally partake and think of him.
Paul was a very dear friend and will be deeply missed.
A great light has passed out of the world and it is a sadder place because of its passing.

I first met Paul through Rose who worked with my wife Deb at Canadian Blood Services and who was a very special woman in her own right. We joined their tennis club and met future colleagues like Rick Roman, Bill Switzer and Ted Brown at a cross country ski party at the club. I was installing a dishwasher for Rose and Paul the day of Rick’s funeral and met Pete Christie that night. Through parties on Cathcart Street I was introduced to Doug Brewster, Ken Beattie, Tom Timmins, Tiny Inch and Sarge, just listening to their banter and tales from the job I decided to try for the LFD.
With just days on the job I met Paul at the shop where he wiped his greasy hands on my virgin 3/4 coat when he told me “ you can’t be a clean coat fireman.” A year later as my acting captain at 5s my assignment was to catch the hydrant then bring a mask to Paul who was with Dave Morden on an 2 1/2 inside a house fire on Hill Street.
I sold my 77 Camaro to Michelle after it was first checked out by Jack Wilson. It soon lost its pristine appearance from Paul’s occasional drives in it. lol
I did my best to emulate Tex's career on the Rescue, Dive Team and on the Local 142 Executive and he holds a special place in my heart.
Paul is the definition of the Scots battle cry “Wha’s like us? Damned few and they’re a’ deid !”

So many wonderful memories of Paul and his adventures in Dyers Bay. We shared fun in our flotilla of zodiacs, going on picnics and meeting up with the Tall Ships. He rescued countless people out in the water, was a fun President of the DBA, and fearless leader of the Dyers Bay Hosehumpers! ( we still have the hats!). We send our deepest condolences to all of his family. Mary Wallace Morris and Steve Morris

I was in that final class of Paul’s as well and will always remember his pride in the job and in the people that he worked with. Tough as nails. Get in there and do the work. I think that it was Paul’s birthday a few years ago when I was priveleged to be part of a parade of fire trucks that drove past “Tex” , dressed in his full uniform as many of the truck at Westmount Gardens. I was Captain on E12 and yelled out my Happy Birthday as we passed, to which he responded, “Well Randy, look at you” He will be missed! Randy Geene

The McPherson Family lived across the street from us on Cathcart St. Both families were so very proud of our dads and their love and commitment to the London Fire Department. Mr. McPherson was always so friendly and an all around good man. Our condolences to Michelle, Catharine, Patti and John .

I had the good fortune to have been a member of Paul's final recruit class for the LFD - Class 10-94, or Tex's Rangers as we called ourselves. In this photo, taken at the Bruce Nuclear training facility, we're all roasting while Paul is laughing, wanting just one more picture. In addition to his wealth of firefighting knowledge and experience, he shared countless stories involving the destruction of assorted trailers, garage doors, and frozen turkeys. Paul truly was an "old-school" smoke-eater in the finest sense of the word. One of a kind, and one who I was lucky to have known.

I have known Paul for many years. When I joined London Fire in May of 74 I wanted to fit in with the guys. Paul took me under his
wing and showed me "The Ropes". We rode Rescue together on many occasions. He was my mentor and I followed him into many scary and dangerous situations.
Paul and I and some of the guys kind of hung out together. We went to football games in Detroit, and played hockey together, His easygoing manor was very addictive. He always made you feel important.
There are so, so many Paul McPherson stories that there are too many to count. After his retirement I met him at a funeral and we
chatted. He said to me Gary, are there still stories going around about me? I said "Paul, you are damn right there are."
I love Paul and miss him. When Joanne texted me and gave me the bad news, it was like a piece of me had been removed.
We are the products of all the people that we meet along this life journey. We take pieces of these people, usually the best parts.
I would like to say that I stole a lot of Paul's attributes and made them my own.
God bless you Paul

I had the wonderful opportunity to both work with Paul (Tex) at the training division and played hockey with him representing the fire department in playing local fire departments as you can see Paul had a large nose which at a game in Brandford was hit by a puck by our own coach at the start of the warm up blood everything but Tex made it through a great colleague and person you will be missed A.G.Harry Bergsma Ret Director of Training
