Obituary of Anthony Joseph Vella
It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Anthony Joseph "Tony" Vella on Saturday, July 27th, 2024 in his 80th year, surrounded by his loving family. Tony was a devoted husband to Vincensa "Censa" Vella, proud father to James Catania (Mary Lou), Jessie Catania (Karen), and the late Joseph Vella (Mattia). He was a cherished Nannu to Nicholas, Lucas (Leah) Daniel, Kaila, Marissa, Kayla and Kelsey. Dear brother of Cetta Fenech (late Joe), Mary Pace (late Lawrence), the late Fred Vella (Sandra), Joyce Vella and Joe Vella (Terri). Dear brother in-law to the late Patrina DeFelice, the late Zarenu DeFelice and the late Giovanna DeGiorgio. Uncle Tony will be missed by many of his nieces, nephews and friends in the Maltese community as well as his relatives in Malta.
Tony was born in Paola, Malta on January 3rd, 1945 and immigrated to Canada in 1955 with his family. His parents, Giuseppe and Maria passed away at a young age and Tony, along with his siblings, were raised by his beloved Nanna Rafaela Mizzi.
Tony was one of the founding members of the Maltese-Canadian Club of London and forever remembered as a leader in the Maltese community. His love for cooking and playing card games brought countless hours of joy and connection with family and friends. Tony was also a carpenter and craftsman. He was a longtime avid fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Elvis Presley. He loved his canary and will be missed by "Tweety". Tony's courage, strength, kindness, and enduring love for his family will forever be remembered. His memory will continue to inspire and guide those who were fortunate enough to know him.
Visitors will be received at John T. Donohue Funeral Home, 362 Waterloo Street, on Tuesday, July 30th, 2024 from 3:00-5:00 pm (prayers at 4:30pm) and from 6:00pm-8:00pm. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Justin's Parish, 855 Jalna Blvd, on Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at 11:00am. Interment to follow at St. Peter's Cemetery, 806 Victoria Street, London. A reception to follow at St. Justin's Parish hall. Memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
