Obituary of Elizabeth Mary Moczulski

Moczulski, Lillian

Lillian Moczulski, 29 September 1933 to 3 July 2024 in her 91st year, peacefully at Mount Hope in London.

Born Elizabeth Mary Stemler in Kalush, Poland.  Lilian’s idyllic childhood at the foot of the Carpathian Mountains, was interrupted by the outbreak of war. Her youth spent as a refugee in Heilbronn, West Germany.  There she learned five languages, qualified as an alternate in the 100m dash for the 1948 Olympics, explored her love of the outdoors and fed her artistic passions as a painter.  Destiny brought her across an ocean to London, Ontario in 1951.  Through the 1950’s she became noted for her superb fashion sense, including sometime work as a model.  She was one among the local immigrants who established Our Lady of Czestochowa Church and was the founder of the original Polish Girl Guides, which remain a vibrant parish institution to this day. It was also here that she was introduced to the love of her life.  A London born Polish-Canadian named Stanley Moczulski.  And here that they married in 1963.  They built together a home and a life of faith, hope and love filled with children, grandchildren, family and friends.  Her many years as a well-loved supervisor at Simpsons and The Bay downtown were interwoven always with faith, community, home and family.  Lillian and Stan remained inseparable for nearly six decades before his passing, mere months ago, in 2023. We find peace and joy in the knowledge of her loving and eternal reunion with her Stanley, together with Christ.

Many and true thanks to the staff of Mount Hope for their ongoing dedication and care.

Lillian is predeceased by her beloved parents Anthony and Klementine, and siblings Josephine, Rudolph and Stephanie, all lost too soon to war, William of Chicago and Janine of London.  Always loving and loved mother to John-Paul (Margery) and Jeffrey, and grandmother to Warner, Anaïs, and Ryker. Dearly beloved aunt to numerous nieces and nephews.

She was the last of an entire generation for two families; now become memory, inspiration and prologue.  We shall not see her like or their kind pass this way again.
