Gertrude Roes 1935-2023
Surrounded by her loving family and friends, Gertrude Maria Roes passed away peacefully on August 19, 2023 at University Hospital, LHSC in London, Ontario.
Gertrude was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She was predeceased by her husband, Willem Roes, parents Nicholas and Anne Van Wijk, siblings Mary-Lou and Mark as well as in-laws, Piet, Mebbie, Barbara and Suzanne, Robert and Wilhelmina Roes-Langlois -Van den Bergh, Steven, Tineke, and Ton.
She was survived by her three children, Robert (Mary), Susan (David) and Caroline (Darrin), her seven grandchildren Christopher, Matthew (Katie), Jacqueline (Andre), Danielle (James), Michael, Shaun and Aimee and her great-granddaughter Macey, her siblings Joe (Dianne), Rose, Alfons, Norbert, Hans, in-laws, Anne and Oscar, her dear friend Sarah, and many nieces and nephews, as well as cousins and family friends.
Gertrude was dedicated to her family, friends, church and community. For many years she was a leader in the Block Parent Organization, as well as municipal and provincial safety and crime prevention committees. She supported education through participating in many academic committees for Catholic Central High School in the 1980’s. In her later years she became a pastoral minister and supported her parish community. She was also an avid traveller, travelling the world with Willem. She loved listening to classical music and reading. She will be dearly missed for her dedication, compassion, kindness, faith, loyalty and determination. She was a strong influence to many over the years through her gentleness and kindness. A truly special woman.
Visitation will take place at Donohue Funeral Home, 362 Waterloo Street at King Street, on August 24, 2023 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm, with prayers at 8:45 pm. Funeral services will take place on August 25, 2023 at The Chapel at Windermere on the Mount, 1486 Richmond Road at 11 am. Parking is limited. Reception to follow after funeral services at the Mount. Internment at St. Peter’s Cemetery to then follow after the reception. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada and/or Heart and Stroke Foundation.
