Obituary of Cecilia Marie Mitchell
Cecilia Marie Mitchell, age 96, life long resident of Dorchester Ont, passed away peacefully with family by her side, on June 9, 2023, at Kensington Village. She was born and raised on Spring Creek Farm and lived there for 90 years before moving to Kensington Village for health reasons. The daughter of the late Marie and James Mitchell, she is survived and always treasured by her many nieces, nephews, cousins and sister-in-law Sandra Mitchell. She now joins her beloved siblings, Mary McHugh (2014), Leo (2008) and Brian (2012).
Auntie, as she was known by many, was loved by all. She was a true farmer who loved every moment working on the farm. After “retiring” she continued her love of the outdoors tending to her vegetable and flower gardens and would often say she would rather be outside than in.
She was a founding member of Mary Immaculate Catholic Church and very active in their ministries. She was a member of the CWL for over 60 years, participated in the resurrection choir, worked at the annual bazaar and assisted wherever she could. She developed many wonderful friendships through her church community. Her faith was an integral part of her life.
Family was so important to her as well. The relationship she had with her siblings was an inspiration for all. They were always there to help each other and have fun in the process. She was very active in the lives of all her nieces and nephews and always encouraged and supported them in all their activities. The family dinners at the farm were treasured events and always completed with her amazing desserts!
A very special thanks to all her wonderful neighbours and friends who have helped her over the years. Her move to Kensington, though difficult at times, brought her a safe, supportive new home. A very special thank you to Dr. Dan and ALL the staff for loving, caring, and supporting her during her 6 1/2 years there. Your compassion and love for both her and our family will never be forgotten.
Visitors will be received at Donohue Funeral Home on Monday, June 12 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Prayers will be held at 3:30pm. Mass of the Resurrection and celebration of a life well lived will be held at Mary Immaculate Catholic Church, 1980 Trafalgar St. on Tuesday, June 13 at 10am. Interment to follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery.
