Obituary of Joseph Graat

Graat, Matthew Joseph (Joe)

Joe Graat passed away peacefully at LHSC Victoria Hospital, on April 29, 2023 surrounded by his loving family.  He is survived by his siblings Jeannette Graat (Doug Beesley, 2020), Tony Graat (Frankie), Harry Graat (Sue), Victor Graat, Josie Howley (Jack) and sister in law Joanne Graat (Len, 2023) and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He is predeceased by his parents Anthony (Sr) and Antoinette Graat, his brothers Bill (1968) and Len (2023), his brother in law Doug Beesley (2020) and his nephew Brandon Graat (2021).

Born in Heerlen, The Netherlands, as an infant Joe immigrated to Canada with his parents in 1950.  He was employed in a family owned development company, building numerous apartment projects within the city of London over the course of 40 years.

Joe was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and outdoor activities in the company of lifelong friends.  He also enjoyed daily vigorous walks around the city.

Joe greatly missed his younger brother Len who passed away in February.  The two siblings grew up together and were best friends, enjoying the same outdoor activities.  Len is waiting for him with a fishing rod in hand.

Joe will be greatly missed by his family and friends for his generous spirit.

We would like to thank the doctor’s, nurses and staff on the 7th floor oncology and critical care at LHSC Victoria Hospital for the kind and compassionate care Joe received.

Visitors will be received at John T. Donohue Funeral Home, 362 Waterloo Street at King Street, on Friday May 5 from 7-9 p.m.  Private family services will be held on Saturday May 6, 2023.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Men’s Mission or the Salvation Army Centre of Hope in memory of Joe.
