Obituary of Maria Teresa Mele

It is with great sadness that we announce that Maria Teresa Mele passed away peacefully on April 27, 2023 at the age of 74. She was born on February 10, 1949, in Volturara, Irpina, Italy, to Rachele and Aristide Pennetti. Teresa was married to Antonio Mele on January 24, 1970, in Volturara, Irpina, Italy. They raised a family in London, Ontario, Canada, and had three children, Tina, Achille, and Rachele.

Teresa retired from Kellogg's Canada after many years of dedicated service. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She was known for her exceptional cooking skills, particularly her legendary lasagne, meatballs, and parmigiana. Teresa was also an excellent host, always willing to open her home for a party and share her delicious food with her guests.

Teresa was a beloved member of the community. She is survived by her husband Antonio Mele, her children Tina, Achille (Carolyn), and Rachele (Richard) Mele, and her grandchildren Lucca, Matteo, Roman, and Mia. Her brothers, Salvatore and Carmelo Pennetti. She will be eternally in our hearts and forever missed.

The family would like to thank Dr Chai Phua for his unwavering support and exceptional care he provided our mother for so many years. We would like to express our gratitude to the Critical Care and Oncology physicians and nurses, especially Hemand, Taryn, Evan and Michael, who lovingly cared for our mother and supported the family through this difficult time.

Visitors are welcome to John T. Donohue Funeral Home, 362 Waterloo Street at King Street, on Sunday, April 30th, 2023 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.  Funeral Mass to be held at St. Mary’s Church, 345 Lyle Street, on Monday, May 1st, 2023 at 11:00am. Interment to follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery, 806 Victoria Street. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in memory of Teresa, to the Critical Care program at University Hospital.
