The Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Canada announce the peaceful death of Sister Mary St. Louis in the care centre at the residence of the Sisters of St. Joseph, 485 Windermere Road, London, Ontario on Sunday, January 8, 2023.
Mary Agnes was born on July 27, 1934, in Windsor, Ontario and entered the community of the Sisters of St. Joseph on January 3, 1955. She received the religious name Sister Mary of the Eucharist. She is remembered with affection by her CSJ Sisters, siblings Sister Mabel CSJ and Sister Patricia CSJ and nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by parents Mary Agnes (Barry) and Ferdine St. Louis as well as her sister Betty (J. Oscar) Lucier and brothers Francis (Kathleen), Peter (Catherine) and Donald (Pat) St. Louis.
Sister Mary spent her life in education as an elementary teacher and principal for 24 years serving in London, Seaforth, Woodstock and Tillsonburg. She was known for producing musical school productions and is remembered to this day by many of her students. After retiring, Sister Mary transitioned to parish ministry as a pastoral assistant at St. Mary’s Parish, Tillsonburg and St. Simon and Jude Parish, Belle River. Between 1990 – 1995 she served as co-director and spiritual guide at Medaille House/Retreat Centre in London, followed by five years in local leadership at Mount St. Joseph.
Mary was an artist at heart and was known for her love of beauty and creativity as seen in her elegant handwork, music and other decorative pursuits. She enjoyed reading and stimulating conversation. Mary’s quiet gentleness, warmth and acceptance of others will be missed.
All services will be held at the Sisters of St. Joseph Residence, 485 Windermere Road, London, Ontario. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 11 from 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm with a prayer service at 6:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, January 12 at 10:00 am., followed by interment at St. Peter’s Cemetery, London, Ontario.

Please note visitors are required to show proof of triple vaccination and a piece of photo identification when being screened at Reception. Visitors will also be given a Rapid Antigen Test and must wait 15 minutes before proceeding into the Residence. Masks are required.
