Claerhout, Gilbert Jean At LHSC Victoria Hospital on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 in his 89th year. Beloved husband of Marilyn Claerhout. Proud father of Christopher Claerhout, David (Miriam) Claerhout, Michael Claerhout and Andrew (Danielle) Claerhout. Cherished grandfather of Tristan, Sabrina, and Alex. Dear brother of Jeannine and Daniel in Belgium. Predeceased by his siblings Marie-Josee, Willy, Hubert, Roger, and Godelieve. Born Ypres, Belgium, Gilbert immigrated to Canada following his military service. After putting himself through night school and becoming a Certified Professional Accountant (CPA), he had a long career in increasingly senior roles at the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). Gilbert was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He had a wry sense of humour and a kind and compassionate heart. Gilbert loved family dinners, good conversation, and a tipple of wine. He enjoyed exercising at the gym, volunteering in the community, crosswords puzzles, reading, and after dinner walks with his beloved wife Marilyn. Visitors will be received at St. John the Divine Church, 390 Baseline Road West, on Monday, October 31 from 10 am until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11 am. Interment will be held at a later date in St. Peter's Cemetery. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated. (John T. Donohue Funeral Home).
