I have many good memories of teta Vera. She was the different aunt, the one who moved far away oversee. I remember being on the peer in Trieste where her, stric and Vlady were boarding the boat to Canada probably in the 60s. In 1976, she invited me and my sister Silva (two teenage girls) to spend the summer in Canada. This was one of the best summers that Silva and me still remember and have very fond memories of. Teta Vera showed me how to sew, which I still like doing. She was a great cook and baker and she taught me how to make apple strudel and apple pie, which I have never eaten it before, but really liked and is still my favorite desrt. I still have her handwritten recipes which I am still using. When we visited few years ago and she was still living at home, she baked the apple pie for us and gave me her pie baking pen. At that time she also gave me some primroses, that I planted in the garden and each spring when they bloom, they remind me of her.
Teta Vera came to visit me with mom in Seattle. For my mom it was the first time she was traveling far away by plane and it was nice to have teta Vera with her. They are funny together, and it seems they are bickering all the time. They took over and rearranged my little apartment saying ‘we did it this way and you can change if you want…’. They did the cleaning, cooking and baking. She bought me a potato press – how can one exists without the tool for making gnocchi? And I am still using it to make gnocchi. When Stefan was born, she came with my mom to visit us in Wooster. I used to call teta Vera regularly and she would give me updates on the family and grandkids, that she adored.
Although we all new that this would happen, we were very saddened by her passing. She left a wonderful legacy, great kids, great grandchildren and now also grand-grandchildren. We feel for the family. It’s always hard to loose a parent, no matter how old they are. We offer our sincere condolences to Vlady and Betty and their families. Teta Vera will always have a special place in my heart.

Dear Vladimir (Ladi) and Elizabeth (Betty)
I just wanted to offer my condolences to you on the loss of your mother.
She was always a very sweet neighbour when you lived on Sherene Terrace.
My mom was always very fond of her. They both lived very long lives.
I am sorry for your loss.

Dear Vladimir, Mary & the entire Stopar Family:
Knowing this time would come makes it no less difficult. Losing a mother is never easy … she will be missed more than words can say. As you grieve, remember the stories, be grateful for the lessons, and treasure the memories she has left you. May her legacy of love lift and strengthen you during this mournful time.
We share your feelings of loss and honor the depth of your sadness. Our heartfelt condolences are with you and your family. In sympathy & prayers from Calgary, John Percic & Diane Dalkin

Aunt Vera was the sister of our grandfather Tone from Knežak, Slovenia. Even though we didn't meet her many times in person, we will always remember her as a strong, fearless woman of extraordinary goodwill and high spirits. Every phone conversation or just a random video sent to us by Vladi, was full of her optimism, sparkling laughter, even happy singing. We all enjoyed hearing and seeing her, she never failed to brighten our day. One of our fondest memories of her and her siblings is from more than a decade ago, when all 7 living children from Kovačeva house gathered together under the same roof for what turned out to be the last such occasion. From the porch outside the house we could hear loud laughter as well as friendly, but heated and opinionated discussions about matters that happened about 50 years ago. Like nothing happened in between, as if only a week has passed and as if they haven't grown up in between, some of them even changing countries and continents and all of them becoming hardy and strong seniors.
We express our deepest condolences to the whole family. May the memories of her loving, happy persona help you steer through these difficult times of loss. We will honor aunt Vera's memory by trying to be as good willed and fearless women as she was.
