"Robert Addington was a gentleman...always a gentleman, with a passion for helping Lost Canadians. I met him a few times over the years....three different times in Ottawa at the Parliament building, and again at the funeral of Liberal MP Andrew Telegdi in January 2017, at Knox Presbyterian Church in Kitchener. I owe the life I have now, that his contribution to the Lost Canadian team made possible. Robert tirelessly worked in the background - as was his way - to bring several Bill's to Parliament. He will be sadly missed."

Please accept my condolences for your families very sad loss.
I never met Robert but, he was instrumental in helping my father re obtain his lost Canadian citizenship. Without Robert and the other lost Canadians input, my father alongside many others would have remained lost and forever a part of them missing. Robert and others helped achieve what many of us thought impossible. Robert will be greatly missed by the lost Canadians.
We will be For ever grateful. Rest peacefully Robert.
Sincerely the Silliker- Hewitt household.

Good morning,
My name is Pete Giesbrecht. I never had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Addington in person, but we did communicate through email several times throughout 2015-17. As a Canadian facing deportation in 2015, Robert was very instrumental in keeping me in the country. I will forever be grateful to the Lost Canadians for doing all they’ve done and helping keep my family grounded and hopeful in our future.

Robert should have received the Order of Canada. He was an unsung hero for all Canadians. For decades he worked tirelessly for equal rights in Canada's citizenship legislation. His worked touched the lives of all 45,000 Canadian war brides of WWII, including their 22,000 children. Here's a government of Canada video, which Robert, along with some others, were responsible for: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDeDQpIQFD0
Over a million people either got their Canadian citizenship restored, or got it for the first time. Parliament finally corrected some egregious citizenship legislation. Robert was part of a small group of Canadians who were responsible.
Robert cared about his fellow Canadian. Just weeks ago, on May 17, 2022, Bill S-245 passed unanimously in the Senate. Robert was a part of that Bill, which will correct another major flaw in the Citizenship act. Thousands upon thousands of people are directly affected, and all of them owe Robert their gratitude.
The Lost Canadian team will miss Robert very, very much. He was a quiet man who cared about others- not just in words, but Robert went out and did something about it. From babies to war brides to Indigenous Canadians, Robert was instrumental in restoring their rights and identity.
And like so many heroes, they're often laid to rest without great fanfare.
The attached picture is Robert (in the middle) sitting in Parliament, with MP Andrew Telegdi (Liberal) on his right; MP Meili Faille (Bloc) on his far left; Bill Janzen of the Mennonite Central Committee (with a beard); Melynda Jarratt, author, historian, and head of the Canadian War Bride website (sitting), and myself.
Rest in peace, my friend, and thank you for "standing on guard for thee."
