Obituary of Bert Jacobus Versteegen
Unexpectedly, Bert Versteegen, in his 82nd year, passed away at his home on March 25, 2022. Beloved husband, life partner and best friend of Magdalena “Killo” for 52 amazing years. Loving father of Steven (Leanne) of Melbourne, Susan Versteegen of London, Jennifer (Paul) Vandenberg of Dorchester, Robert (Laura) of Dorchester and Jason (Caroline) of Vancouver. Proud and forever loved Opa to Josh, Amanda (Ryan), Alyssa, Marcus, Spencer, Sydney, Noah, Jacob, Emily, and Zachary. Cherished Great Opa of Chelsey, Hunter, and Sierra. Brother of Tony (Cathy) of Windsor and brother-in-law of Annie of Aylmer, Frank Hochstenbach Sr of Aylmer, and Mia of Dorchester. Predeceased by brothers Joseph of Orillia, Koos of Aylmer, Henry of Dorchester, sisters Mary of Vienna and Henrietta “Rick” of Aylmer. Forever remembered Uncle to many nieces and nephews. Bert was born in Gerwen, Netherlands on October 25, 1940, and was the son of the late Anton and Hendrika (nee Lamers) Versteegen. As he built a life in Canada, Bert learned the value and importance of hard work and perseverance, values he instilled in his children and grandchildren. Bert loved many things, especially working with his hands and in his shop building things, being outside and taking care of his property, travelling and being at the table with his coffee surrounded by his family. Bert loved his road trips which usually involved an ice cream or two. We will always love you forever to the moon and back. See you on our next road trip.

Donohue Funeral Home, 362 Waterloo Street, London, on Wednesday, March 30, 2022, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. With prayers at 2:15 p.m. Funeral Mass to be held at Sacred Heart Church, 131 Thames Street North, Ingersoll, on Thursday, March 31, 2022, at 11:30 a.m. Private family Interment to follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery, London. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bert’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
