Steve was my best friend in high school. I have so many fond memories and crazy adventures we had. I only wish I could have spent time with him once again.
Though we had not spoken in many years, he was always in my thoughts, I just didn't recognise it then. We grew up together, having met him in grade three. As we grew into adults we influenced one another in ways that only childhood friends can.
I can only imagine what Diane and Melissa, and Steve's mum are going through. Just know that Steve was loved by many and will always be remembered.

My deepest sympathies to Steven’s family for your tremendous loss. I have fond memories of sharing so many laughs with Steven when we worked at Huron County Museum & Gaol in about 1996. Even way back then, the joy he conveyed sharing history with youth was evident, and it’s wonderful to learn of his deep impact on his community.

Dear Diane and Melissa and Family,
Deepest condolences on the loss of an amazing man. For the past 18 years working with him as a tour guide I was able to see a person who was always so appreciative, welcoming and caring. He had a gift for building educational programs and even encouraged a public exhibition called A Guiding Vision where tour guides were given a chance to curate works for the museum. He always wanted all of us to feel encouraged to love what we do. I have hundreds of memories with Steve but my favourite would be our trip to Toronto in 2009 for the national docent symposium where we were to launch “smart board” technology and the board was missing up to an hour before our presentation. He was grace under pressure and we shared lots of laughs. Sending virtual hugs

Saddened to hear the news of Steve's sudden passing. I had the pleasure of working with Steve--but most importantly learning from him--for eight years while at Museum London. He was committed to culture and children in every way, using his calm nature and witty humour to touch us all. Condolences to Diane and Melissa. Thinking of you both.

Diane,
Susan and I were shocked and saddened to hear of Steve's passing. Our heartfelt condolonces to you and Melissa and my Aunt Julie and cousin Caron. I fondly remember the get togethers I had with Steve and Caron and my aunt and uncle Horst at holidays and summers coming to London and also at our home in Burlington. The cooked goose at Christmas and the hikes in the woods were most memorable. Being part of your wedding many years ago was also a wonderful memory and I still use the flask Steve gave to me! We are thinking of you all in this very difficult time.

Diane and Melissa,
I am so sorry to hear about the loss of Steve. And a loss it surely is...to his family, to his friends, to his colleagues and to all who have had the absolute joy of working with him. I had the pleasure of being involved in the beginning stages of several collaborations between the Thames Vally District School Board and Museum London and found Steve to be incredibly hard working, creative and passionate about his work. And a good friend. The world lost a damn fine man!

I'm so very sorry to hear of Steve's passing. I had the absolute privilege of working with Steve for the past 5 years on a variety of projects and programs offered to TVDSB teachers and students through Museum London. Steve was kind, patient, caring and always came from a place of "yes" when it came to supporting programming for students - particularly those who would not otherwise have the opportunity. Steve worked diligently to ensure that students had access to quality arts programming - even during these challenging times. He would look at challenges and find the opportunity for silver linings. His optimism, compassion and calmness were infectious. My thoughts and prayers are with Steve's family, friends and colleagues during this difficult time. I hope that it gives you comfort to know that Steve's legacy will live on in the programs he established and the teachers and students that have, and will continue to benefit from the artistic experiences that Steve was instrumental in developing.
Sincerely,
Michelle Rees

I met Steve when I arrived for graduate school at the University of Guelph, and his kindness, generosity, and savage sense of humour was so essential for our whole group of newbies. Without knowing it until I started my own career at Carleton, Steve was ahead of the curve in knowing that historical research ought to be used to not only know the past, but to enrich peoples' lives. I love knowing that he helped other students at Western find that same sense of purpose, and I also regret, deeply, not being able to tell him these things myself. I wish only peace and blessings to all who loved and admired him.

We are very saddened by the news of Steve Mavers’s passing. Our sincere condolences to his family. Steve was a good friend to Western’s History Department and our MA Public History program in particular. He always made himself available to assist and guide us in our student group projects such as creating SMART Board modules for Eldon House in 2008 and developing the exhibit London Works: Labouring in the Forest City for Museum London in 2013. Steve also mentored several of our students as they served as Research Assistants and Interns over the years at Eldon House and Museum London. It was a privilege knowing and working with Steve and we’ll be forever grateful for sharing with us his expertise and passion for museums and history education.
