:) but with a smile at the end. To my dear Cervoni girls which I hold dear, posso solo dire e difficile, in momenti così particolari della vita, Trovare parole che non siano di rito. Vi sono affettuosamente vicino. Un abbraccio .

I am saddened to hear of Giovanni Cervoni's passing. He was a great mentor to me and many others in the early days of the Filodrammatica Italiana, when we tackled such classics as Pirandello's "Cosi' e' se vi pare". As has been pointed out in the obituary, he was a man of many talents, a great community leader, and a friend to all. What many may not know, is that he was also a fledging poet. I remember well when, some years ago, he submitted a poem for an Italian Poetry contest held in Hamilton Ontario. I was on the Jury of that contest and can tell you that, while Giovanni was not a Leopardi or Montale, his poetry revealed a moving receptiveness to beauty and humane feeling which, in retrospect, summed up the man. At the Awards ceremony Giovanni was asked to read his poem, which he did with great passion, to the delight of many. And that is how I'll always remember Giovanni Cervoni.
My heartfelt condolences to the entire family, but especially Anna and Joanne, whom I remember best after almost 50 years away from London.

Thank you for this lovely tribute to my father. He had a passion for writing and he actually published a book of poems. Many have written about their fond memories of the Teatro Italiano. It is heart warming to know that dad’s efforts had such a positive impact on so many.

I am saddened to hear about the passing of Signor Cervoni. I will always cherish the memories that were made when I was a part of the Italian theatre group. He had such an immense passion and love for the Italian culture, language and history. In turn, this made me truly appreciate and be proud of my family roots and traditions. I will never forget working with him on the Rogers cable cast for the Italian program. I will always respect and admire the exceptional teacher and person that he was. Thank you for your leadership, mentorship and guidance. I will forever treasure these memories and hold them close to my heart. My deepest condolences to the Cervoni family. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Riposa in pace Signor Cervoni. Sei stato uno dei grandi.

Both my husband and I have had the pleasure of knowing this wonderful man but it was I who met him first, more than 50 years ago. As a child, and the ripe old age of eight I was the youngest to join his Italian Teatro which took place at the St. Mary's Church basement. I felt like a little princess amongst all these adults in their early twenties but I always felt safe and a part of another family because that is how Mr. Cervoni treated all of us. Of course, he knew that my parents had entrusted him for those few hours with their precious child and he always made sure that I was taken care of. He was demanding at times of all of us but kind at the same time. He wanted perfection.. My time as a child , including my teens spent at this Teatro was a joy and I looked forward to it as at the end, we were all mid to upper teens and it was an amazing group so diverse but so much fun, a group, where many of us found our spouses including me. I also found my bestie who to this day is more like a sister. thank you for that Signor Cervoni. All he wanted was to help us children of Italian immigrants( in many cases) learn Italian to the best of his and our capabilities, he was overjoyed when he could introduce a new member especially ones who had just arrived from Italy to add that true italian experience. He truly loved everyone who was part of this group and am sure that we will all miss him. When the group was no longer, it was a sad day as this man had put his heart and soul into this Italian Teatro. These plays brought so much joy to all who watched and it was most always sold out.. I will miss this kind, generous , at times funny, loving human being...Riposa in Pace Signor Cervoni.. Maria e Antonio D'Oria..- We would like to extend our condolglianze alla famiglia Cervoni, Anna, Joanne, Amelia, Joe e Carla e le loro famiglie.. xo

It is with great sadness that I heard of Mr. Cervoni's passing. He was a friend, trusted advisor and passionate advocate for Italians in the City of London. It has been a few years since we last spoke but the conversations we had will leave a lasting memory in what they taught me and also how to treat others. Giovanni will always be a pillar of the Italian Community and his guidance to many whom made Canada their home after leaving their beloved homeland will never be forgotten. On behalf of the Board of Directors of The Italian Seniors Project, our heartfelt condolences to the family and all those whom have had the gift of Mr. Cervoni's friendship. He will always be remembered!

Our sincere condolences to all of you. Your Dad was always such a kind and sincere family friend (and Compare!). He was so very proud of his heritage and culture and he modelled and shared this positive spirit with the Italian community. I have fond memories of visits with your family, participating in Italian plays your Dad directed and reciting poems on his Italian show on Cable TV.
Sending love and prayers to all of you.
