Obituary of Eugene Francis McCaffrey

Eugene Francis McCaffrey Peacefully, Eugene Francis McCaffrey of London (formerly of Sarnia), on November 11, 2020, in his 88th year. Loving husband of Helen (Small) (Broad). Father of Ann McCaffrey, Sue McCaffrey, and Lyn Druiett (David). Proud grandfather of Sue's son Quinn Burke. Brother-in-law of Mary and Ken Allen. Survived also by special sister-in-law Lilianne Frankoski. Predeceased by his parents, Owen and Mary (Quinn), brothers Joey and Pat (Lilianne), and sisters Kathy (Doddie), Margie (Clyde Freeman), Theresa (Clare Lannan), and Mary (Mimi). Gene is also survived by his second family: children Lori Edwards (Bill Carey), Jerome Broad, Jamie (Jen) Broad, Michelle (Jeff Harper) and grandchildren Sarah Dixon (the late Adam Dixon), James Edwards, Evelyn Broad, Quinn Broad (Samantha Holloway), Margot Broad, Wilson Broad and Joshua Broad. Also surviving are six great-grandchildren. He was also Uncle Gene to his many nieces and nephews, and good friend to Ray Thomson and Jan Clarke, Harry and Jean Broad, Pierette Broad and the late Bill Broad, Lisa Hott and Dan Tilleman and their families. Born of Irish immigrant parents in Sarnia, Gene grew up in Point Edward where a part of his heart forever remained. He enjoyed a long career as a secondary school teacher in Sarnia-Lambton, holding leadership positions in the schools in which he served. Gene contributed generously as a volunteer to several organizations, boards, and causes, many reflecting his love of sports, music, civics and politics, and his dedication to his profession. Visitors will be received at St. Peter's Cathedral Basilica, 196 Dufferin Avenue, on Saturday morning, November 14th from 10 o'clock until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11 o'clock. Interment to follow at St. Peter's Cemetery. Due to COVID-19 restrictions as per the Bereavement Authority of Ontario a limited number of people are able to attend. Please email donohue@donohuefuneralhome.ca to register. In lieu of flowers, donations made to St. Peter's Cathedral Basilica Restoration Fund or a charity of choice would be appreciated.
