Dear David and Everett, I just stumbled across this obituary while searching for your Mom & Dad. I remember you and your sisters when you all were quite young and your talents for sports. incl tennis. I knew your Dad, John (and Mom, Anne Marie) and admired them greatly when I lived near them in Toronto in the 1970's and 80's before I moved from Toronto. I worked under John at Maxxam. He was an amazing person and the best boss I have ever had. When you talked to John you had a feeling as though you were talking to a close friend. I will never forget his kindness, his respect for everyone no mater how small or insignificant you were. He was not afraid to lend a helping hand even in the least desirable task. I have learned a lot from John and am greatful for it. His remarkable sens of humor is unforgettable. John really touched my heart and I have utmost respect for Him. Most off all John loved His familly and was very proud of it. May His soul rest in Peace and ethernal happiness My deepest condolences to His family. Malgorzata Stuglik-Rolland

I had the pleasure of working for john in 2001. I remember him talking about his family during my interview for the position. It seemed odd at the time, but that was John wells. He was a great scientist, renovator, boss and so much more. He loved to go out for lunch and wasn’t afraid to suggest that people could do better with other careers over lunch at macadam place. I was grateful for his advice and followed it in the end. It was an honour to know him and to go to lunch all those times. I’m sure that he touched the lives of many that worked with him over the years. My condolences, Robert Koops.

John was an incredible Boss. I was very fortunate to work under him at Maxxam. He treated everyone with the utmost kindness and respect. He was loved dearly. I remember joking about his 'toupe', he said tug! I almost pulled his hair out. From that moment on he became my mentor and friend. All of us who worked with him will never forget him. The world is a better place for him being in it. My condolences to his family and everyone whose lives he touched.

These photos are a snapshot of my time knowing John; at a CFS BBQ in 1972, with other Ski Bums and their children in 1982 - Yes, John joined a ski club where he met Ann-Marie. In a London pub in 2001 and on a visit to us in Vancouver in 2017. Very sad to lose him but he'll forever be in my thoughts with very fond memories.

Our condolences on John's passing. I worked with John in the toxicology section in the eighties. He was quick with a joke but was also a dedicated scientist, administrator and more importantly, he was a friend. We processed cases, went to court and at the end of the day John and several staff would congregate at the nearest pub have a few pints, plays darts and discuss the our lives - we were like a family. When he visited in London he always had hilarious anecdotes about his latest renovation either at the cottage or at home, usually unfinished, but a great story. He was a remarkable man and brought so much to our lives. We will miss him

A child's love for his father is unconditional, and then when you have children of your own and are lucky enough to see them with your parents....A special and deeper appreciation of your own parents develops....This is dad with my son Basil a few years back. I loved that smile of his (and the dry British wisecrack that usually came with it)!!

I knew John as a man having those rare qualities of a brilliant, inquisitive mind and a wonderful sense of humor while being completely unpretentious. I recall an occasion in Kenora while waiting to testify. Sitting in the courtroom hallway (all dressed up in my best conservative business suit) I advised the police that my boss would be arriving to review my testimony. As if on cue, the hallway door opened and in walked John, wearing torn jeans and a paint spattered sweatshirt with his hair pointing in a dozen different directions.(he had been working on his cottage) The investigators were aghast. But that was John. Appearances meant little to him. It was only the quality of the science that mattered. A truly wonderful man and it is my honour to have called him my boss, my colleague and my friend. I take solace in knowing that his pain is over and I can take some comfort in the belief that he is now rewiring the computer network in heaven while extolling to St Peter the virtues of fibre optic over ethernet cable.
