Obituary of Sister Thecla Martens

Martens, Sister Thecla The Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Canada, London Neighbourhood, announce the death of our dear Sister Thecla Martens at the Residence of the Sisters of St. Joseph at 485 Windermere Road in London. Sister Thecla died as she had lived, simply and quietly on Thursday, July 30, 2020, surrounded by members of Care Centre Staff. Sister Thecla Martens (Irene Mary) was born in Koewacht, Holland, and joined the Community of the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1944. She is remembered with affection by all her CSJ Sisters as well as her sister, Mary. Predeceased by her mother, Marie Joanne, father, Theophile Joseph, her sisters Rosalie Landuyt, and brother Joseph. She was fondly loved and will be deeply missed by her many friends and family members. Sister Thecla’s fun-loving and gentle ways drew others to her. She especially enjoyed her years of adventure in the 80’s in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. In her roles as Homemaker and in Food Services, wherever she lovingly ministered she created a feeling of home through her presence, delicious cooking and wonderful pies. Due to the current pandemic, there will be no public services. A private burial service will be held, with a memorial Mass and a celebration of her life to be scheduled at a later date. (John T.
