Obituary of Gerrard Delargy
On his own terms, free of pain, with peace and dignity with his daughter by his side, on Tuesday June 23 2020 Gerry Delargy died at LHSC University Hospital.
Born October 27 1941 in Glasgow Scotland, son of James Delargy and Mary (nee Devine). Baby brother, and last survivor of the generation of 5 Delargy siblings: brother James Delargy (Babs) and his sisters Margaret “Pearl/Maggie”, D’Arcy Goulden (Denis), Mary Josephine “Jo” Dallas (Walt), and Sheila Devine McSwiggan (Tom). The family immigrated in stages to Canada, settling in the London and Brantford areas.
Father of Christopher Gerrard Delargy (Bonnie) of Lavigne and Darcy Lynn Nicksy (Ron) of Mississauga. Proud grandfather of 6 and great grandfather of 4; Ryan Delargy (Amanda; Harper, Renn, Sutter), Sean Delargy (Erica; Ivy) and Samantha Delargy; Daniel Nicksy (Sarah), Jessica Nicksy, Katherine “Katie” Nicksy (Andrew McGirr). Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews (Jim, Barbie [predeceased Magsie]; Lorraine, Annie [predeceased Ian, Bev, Denise]; Brian, Rob; Steve, Mike, Shona). Many were able to visit or see him “virtually” in hospital in his last days despite the global pandemic. A very kind PSW sought permission to take him out of the hospital to the river on his last evening. In Gerry’s words regarding his last days “It was Magic!”.
Per Gerry’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Flowers are gratefully declined. Those wishing to make a charitable donation in Gerry’s memory may consider a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, CMHA or a charity of your own choice.
