To Scott-
Please accept my very belated condolences. I just today found this obituary for your father, dated last spring .
I was a close friend of your mother, Sylvia Bryden while we were at U.of T. . I got to know your father when he came to date her at our residence ,146 St. George St. 1955-58. We kept in touch for a few years after she married your father and then I lost contact. She did not attend any of the class reunions.
There is no mention of her in the obituary. (Some times a former wife is mentioned as the mother of the man's children)
I would be very pleased if you would contact me with any information of my once good friend. Sylvia.
I am sorry for your loss. He was a great guy and I am pleased that he found much happiness and success in his personal and professional life.
Thank you

Jeannette, we were saddened to learn of the passing of your dear husband, Douglas. We enjoyed spending an evening with you both when we sat with you at the wine function a couple of years ago. Lots of interesting stories were traded!
Cherish the many wonderful memories and adventures you enjoyed together over many happy years.
Our deepest condolences to you and your family.
Sincerely, Ron and Betty Eichenberger

To Mary Cunningham
I grew up in Cottage 18 at Geneva Park ( GP ) - just down from cottage 15. Your family was one of the few families ( like ours ) that had a motor boat. I can remember Don driving the boat for three water skiers all at once behind your 25 HP motor. Doug was one; Rick Taylor was another; and were you the third? You all had different length ropes or you would never have gotten up.
I am not sure - but did you marry Bob Cunningham of the Fernwood Trio? How many Bob Cunninghams live in Orillia? If so, we used to fill in between the Trio's professional act at the Club of Two Levels along with a nobody by the name of Gord Lightfoot. I still have two record albums: Hootin' Holiday and Bluenose. Our lowly trio was the GP3 ( poor man's Fernwood Trio )with Steve Gosse ( on Banjo ), Gord Ball ( on Guitar ) and Me ( on the gut bucket ).
Your family just down from ours was always a delight for us as neighbours at GP. Fond memories indeed. I went on to become a civil engineer like Doug and am a graduate of UofT as well.
We now live in Edmonton - I met my wife - Linda Rider - at GP; had 3 daughters who gave birth to 7 grandchildren. Our eldest daughter married Andre Powell who lived down the block from the Tapscott Family in Orillia. Perhaps you knew both families.
Sorry for your loss of Doug, but it sound like he had a wonderful and full life to celebrate.

I had the pleasure of working with Doug when I joined the group as Assistant Deputy Minister in the "8o's. He was most generous with his support. He had a wonderful reputation with public housing officials across the province. He was a very dedicated public servant and worked very hard to improve housing for very needy people.
