When Andy came into my life, I was a directionless teenager. I needed a job, Andy and his brother Steve hired me to work at the car wash. Andy was always fixing something, rarely was he staying still, although he was always quiet. When the chain drive would come apart, it was a challenge to put it together because there may have been a vehicle stuck on the line or vehicles lined up outside. I learned to work by watching Andy, anticipating what he would need next, and giving it to him because he would never ask for anything he could do himself.
After a while, Andy and his brother trusted me to operate the car wash/gas station for a couple weeks when they took a vacation to Alcupulco - I was still in high school and it was a big deal to be running a business while my friends were going to school. Andy gave me confidence and the substance that was needed to feel as though I could do something with my life.
I stayed working with Andy in different capacities even after graduating college. We often worked well into the evenings, and it was no big deal to him! Andy's influence was huge - he was a gentle giant, he showed me you could do anything you set your mind to. There wasn't much he couldn't figure out.
To this day, I think of Andy anytime something seems to big to deal with. The inspiration has lasted a lifetime and I'm pretty sure my boys have picked up on it as well. We are all going to miss Andy.

My condolences to Andy's family.
I knew Andy as far back (in Canada) as I can remember (I was 7 years old when I came to Canada from Sicily).
Everyone I knew, in my age group, worked either at the muntz center or the car wash.
Whenever there was a real problem, which no one could figure out, we sent for Andy. Andy was the man!
Andy would show up, smile and nod, look at the problem, disappear without a word for 15 minutes, come back with some contraption or another and fix it, without fail. He would then leave with a usual smile and nod without a word. Andy was the man!
One of the worst jobs at the car wash was the power washers in the winter. We took turns because our pants would freeze into ice chaps and we would be cold and miserable. Without a word, Andy showed up with some heater contraption that looked like a jet engine. This succker could dry your frozen pants in 60 seconds, the trick was not to cook your legs. Once again, Andy was our hero.
If Andy was born in another era, he would have been an outstanding engineer.
Andy was the most patient, humble and gentle soul I have ever known.
He taught me patience (I'm still working on the humility and gentle part).
He was the only one i ever called, to do my house renos and i usually had to pay him more than he asked (anyone who knew Andy knows he never did it for the money).
I know Andy always looked at me as a son.
I loved Andy and still do.
He is a shoo-in to heaven.
