Obituary of Dmytro Sokil

Sokil Peacefully at Kensington Village, London, Ontario on Monday, September 13, 1999, Dmytro (Dan), in his 90th year. Beloved husband of the late Micheline (Lena) Sokil (1990). Dearly loved father of Louise Coppen and her husband Bill of Red Lake, Ontario, Beth Drechsler of Cobourg, Ontario, and Julie Patten and her husband Nic of London, Ontario. Dear grandfather to Kari Coppen of Vancouver, B.C., Lance Drechsler of Ottawa, Ont., Scott Coppen of Boston, Mass., and Joel Drechsler of Toronto, Ont. Predeceased by brothers Mike, Nick and Harry and sister Katie Kowalchuk. Survived by sister Nellie Sokoloski and Anne Smith of Winnipeg, Manitoba and Lena Rogowski of Gimli, Manitoba. Dan was born on November 3rd, 1909 to Mary and John Sokil, Ukranian pioneers who emigrated to Meleb, Manitoba in the late 1800's to farm the land. He moved to Fort Frances in the 1940's and was employed at the pulp and paper mill for 30 years. Dan was a quiet, gentle, kind man who loved animals and enjoyed gardening and playing cards. He will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humour, his love of children and family, and his generous nature. Friends and relatives are welcome for visitation at the John T. Donohue Funeral Home, 362 Waterloo Street at King Street, London, on Wednesday evening, September 15th, from 7-9 o'clock. There will be a second visitation on Friday, September 17th from 7-9 o'clock at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, in Fort Frances, Ont., where the funeral service will be held at 10a.m. Saturday morning with interment in Riverview Cemetery, Fort Frances, Ont. Remembrances may be made to Kensington Village, Activation Department, c/o Lynda McNabb, 1340 Huron Street, London, Ontario, N5V 3R3 or to the London Humane Society. A special thank you to the wonderful staff and volunteers of Kensington Village for their compassion and extra special care. You filled Dad's last years with much love and laughter.
