It is with heavy hearts and sadness that the family announces the passing of Maria Lorusso. Maria passed away peacefully at LHSC Victoria Hospital on Friday, January 31, 2025 surrounded by her loving family at the age of 90. Beloved, caring and devoted wife of the late Nicola for over 56 years. Adored and respected mother of her children Mary Lorusso, Sam Lorusso, Vito Lorusso and his wife Simona and Tina Bitondo and her late husband Domenic. Cherished and loved nonna to her grandchildren Nick, Sam, Alexia, Arianna, Michaela, Vincent and Matteo and biz nonna of Billie Predeceased by her brother Vito (late Vincenza) Buragina and Antonio (Brenda) Buragina. Dear sister in law of late Laura Rondinelli (late Andrea), late Vincenza Lorusso (late Vincenzo) of Italy, late Giuseppe Lorusso (late Carmela) of Italy, Armando Lorusso (late Rosa), late Clorinda Rondinelli (late Natale) and late Vincenzo Lorusso. Zia Maria will be fondly remembered by her numerous nieces, nephews and their families in London and Italy.
Our Mother was the Matriarch of the family. A source of strength and support to everyone she touched. Maria immigrated to Canada in 1954 from Curinga, married in 1956 to Nicola, had 4 children and built her life around her family. Maria was a doting mother, a wonderful cook, enjoyed her garden and loved spending time with her familiy and friends.
We wish to thank Dr Louzada LHSC Victoria Hospital for the great care you provided our mother. We thank the Physicians, Nurses and clerical support staff family at LHSC Victoria Emergency for your kindness and compassion.
Lastly, the staff in Cardiology Victoria Hospital for the respect and dignity you showed to our mother and family.
Visitors will be received at John T. Donohue Funeral Home, 362 Waterloo Street at King Street, on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 o'clock. Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Church, 345 Lyle Street at York Street, on Monday morning, February 3 at 10 o'clock. Entombment in Holy Family Mausoleum at St. Peter's Cemetery. If desired, donations may be made to the Ronald McDonald House.
